Overview :
Our client, a leading company in the mining industry, is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a large-scale project in the Saskatchewan / Alberta region. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing the engineering and project execution process from start to finish, ensuring that all objectives are met within time, cost, and quality constraints. The position operates on a 10 / 4 rotational schedule, with potential camp or FIFO options for candidates with the right experience.
Key Responsibilities :
- Project Planning & Execution :
- Develop and implement comprehensive project plans, ensuring clarity around timelines, deliverables, and milestones.
- Monitor and adjust schedules as necessary to maintain progress and meet deadlines.
- Team Leadership & Coordination :
- Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary project team, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across all stakeholders.
- Facilitate regular team meetings and reporting to ensure project goals are understood and achieved.
- Technical Oversight :
- Provide technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle, guiding the team through engineering challenges and ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Review designs, plans, and specifications to guarantee alignment with project requirements.
- Budget & Resource Management :
- Monitor and manage project budgets, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and resources are allocated effectively.
- Work with senior management to track financial performance and recommend cost-saving measures when necessary.
- Risk Management & Problem-Solving :
- Identify potential risks to the project’s schedule, budget, or quality and implement mitigation strategies to minimize impact.
- Resolve technical and logistical challenges to keep the project on track.
- Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance :
- Ensure all activities comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Promote and maintain a culture of safety across the project team, ensuring that safety protocols are strictly followed.
- Client and Stakeholder Communication :
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and key project stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, milestones, and any changes to scope, schedule, or budget.
- Prepare and present progress reports to senior management, addressing any concerns or challenges.
- Quality Assurance & Control :
- Oversee the implementation of quality control processes and ensure that all project deliverables meet required specifications and industry standards.
- Conduct regular quality reviews, inspections, and audits.
- Contractor & Vendor Management :
- Manage relationships with contractors and vendors, ensuring that they meet performance, schedule, and cost expectations.
- Oversee procurement processes, track materials and services deliveries, and monitor the performance of third-party vendors.
- Documentation & Reporting :
- Ensure all project documentation is complete, accurate, and up to date, including schedules, reports, and meeting minutes.
- Provide regular written updates to stakeholders on project status, potential issues, and resolutions.
Qualifications :
Experience :Minimum of 5 years of experience in project engineering, with a proven track record of delivering projects on time, within budget, and to specification.Experience in the mining industry is preferred but not required. Candidates with experience in other industries such as oil and gas, construction, or infrastructure will also be considered.Education :Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field).Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is highly desirable.Skills :Strong project management skills with experience leading teams and coordinating complex projects.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, stakeholders, and team members.Proficient in project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, etc.).Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage risks effectively.Other :Ability to work in a rotational schedule (10 / 4) and manage a camp / FIFO lifestyle, if necessary.Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.Additional Information :
Location : This role is based in Saskatchewan and candidates from the local area are preferred. However, FIFO and camp accommodations can be provided for candidates with the right experience.Rotation : 10 / 4 work schedule, with the flexibility to manage both office and site-based duties.
