Controller - Mining

We are looking for an experienced Controller with mining industry experience to join our client's team in Toronto, Ontario. This long-term contract position offers an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the financial management of a growing organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting expertise, leadership capabilities, and a proactive approach to improving systems and processes.

Responsibilities :

• Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
• Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate timely reviews and audits of financial reports.
• Manage full-cycle accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and month-end closings.
• Oversee financial consolidations across multiple entities, including Canadian and international subsidiaries.
• Develop and maintain robust internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Collaborate with project leaders to monitor budgets, forecasts, and costs for various operational initiatives.
• Provide oversight for vendor payments, treasury activities, and foreign exchange transactions.
• Deliver insightful financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning by senior leadership.
• Supervise and mentor entry level accounting staff or external accounting support as required.
• Continuously identify and implement improvements to financial systems and processes.
• Accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) is preferred.
• At least 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a public company environment.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Experience in industries such as mining, construction, or natural resources is advantageous.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and adaptability in a dynamic setting.
• Excellent communication skills, with confidence in presenting to executives and external auditors.
• Familiarity with budgeting, payroll, and ad hoc financial reporting processes.
