Community Description
Williams Lake is in BC’s Central Interior Region, otherwise known as the Cariboo Chilcotin Region, and is famous for the annual Williams Lake Stampede. There is a population of approximately 11,000 residents locally, and 25,000 residents in the surrounding areas. A vast array of lakes, rivers and hiking and biking trails make Williams Lake and the surrounding area a great place for outdoor enthusiasts to camp, fish, hunt and play during the summer months while winter months bring the enjoyment of snowmobiling, skiing, snowboarding, and ice fishing. Williams Lake has something for everyone.
Role and Facility Information
Cariboo Memorial is under renovation with planned completion of 2026. The CMH redevelopment project includes an addition to the existing hospital as well as renovations to the existing facility. The addition will add 25 in‑patient beds for a total of 53, a new emergency department, mental‑health unit and cancer department. A new maternity clinic has been added – dedicated to providing centralized comprehensive care and support to expectant mothers in the Cariboo region. Currently, CMH is a Level 2 community hospital in Williams Lake with 28 inpatient beds. CMH hospital offers ER, OR, Med‑Surg, Cardiology Unit and Obstetrical units. Lab and diagnostic imaging and outpatient hemodialysis unit are operated on‑site.
Deni House is adjacent to CMH, embodies a resident‑centered philosophy designed to help people function at their highest level and provide the best quality of life. Deni House has 13 private and 5 triple‑bed rooms. Nine of the beds are designated as short stay including 2 palliative beds, and ALCP’s (2 beds).
Clinic Duties
Atwood Medical Clinic is a private clinic in downtown Williams Lake just a 5‑minute drive from the hospital. Clinic hours are 8 : 30 am–4 : 00 pm, Monday to Thursday, and 9 : 00 am–12 : 00 pm on Fridays. The successful candidate will devote time each week, minimum 3 to 4 days, to the clinic for client care, will be responsible for checking results and may also divide their time between the clinic and other specific areas of interest (agreeable with the clinic). Candidates are required to work 1680 hours annually of dedicated patient care.
Physicians are responsible for own hospital, long‑term care and office patients. Office has full EMR (Intra Health) capabilities with good software support. Billing is done in‑house. Other clinics have the same software with group support.
Leadership Development
For those interested, leadership development opportunities are available with Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program. The NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program is a comprehensive leadership development program designed specifically for physicians to address the practical leadership knowledge, behaviours and skills that high‑potential, emerging medical leaders require to step into leadership roles early in their careers.
Additional Opportunities
Family physicians in this community are strongly encouraged to support IH services, including rural ER, LTC, OAT, maternity, etc., as part of their community practice. Return of Service Family Physicians – a portion of your ROS FTE will support PCN and / or IH facilities and / or services. Compensation
Compensation Type : Fee‑for‑Service. Estimated Remuneration : $300,000.
Benefits and Incentives : May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including retention premium 12.32% and retention flat fee $19,092. Relocation funding available $9,000–$15,000 based on move location. Recruitment incentive $15,000. Other benefits / incentives : Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at time of offer. Candidates with a BC or Canada student loan may be eligible for loan‑forgiveness programs.
