Location: Vancouver, British Columbia
The Vancouver Art Gallery is one of Canada’s most renowned cultural institutions, celebrated for its bold exhibitions, commitment to contemporary and historical art, and deep engagement with diverse communities. Today, the Gallery stands at the threshold of a landmark transformation: an entirely reimagined facility that will redefine its presence in the heart of the city. Backed by extraordinary public and philanthropic support—including major gifts and a significant land contribution from the City of Vancouver—the vision for a new, world‑class Gallery reflects both the cultural ambition of Vancouver and the momentum surrounding this next chapter. Amid this period of renewal and growth, the Vancouver Art Gallery is seeking a leader of Finance & Administration, its most senior financial executive and a vital strategic partner in shaping the organization’s future. This is a rare opportunity for a forward‑thinking finance leader to influence a generational project, supporting a revitalized institution as it strengthens its operations, modernizes systems, and prepares for major change.
Reporting to the Co‑CEO, the head, Finance & Administration is the top finance position, a key member of the Executive Team, and responsible for the strategic and business leadership of the Gallery’s finance, technology and facilities functions. This role ensures the financial integrity and sustainability of the organization while supporting its artistic and public mission. The head provides strategic advice to the Co‑CEOs, Board, and senior leaders on efficient business operations, financial stewardship, and risk management. This leader plays a pivotal role in aligning resources with organizational priorities, and fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration across departments.
The ideal candidate is a business‑minded finance professional who has overseen a broad portfolio and who brings experience in organizations that generate revenue, have public partnerships, drive consumer attendance / membership, are unionized, and/or work with a range of relationships similar to Vancouver Art Gallery. Experience could come from the private or non‑for‑profit sectors as long as the person has the operational acuity to provide practical business advice, work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external partners, and drive change.
Based in Vancouver, this is a career‑building opportunity in a cultural institution poised for transformation. The years ahead promise momentum, renewal, and lasting impact, and the finance leader will be central to helping the Gallery realize its bold vision for the future.
