Duties
Your mandate as a farm worker is to provide a service to the various research teams by preparing, planting, maintaining and harvesting experimental plots in the field.
Farm workers on our experimental farms are responsible for :
cleaning and organizing materials, equipment and contents of work areas, including workshops, farm machinery, warehouses, pesticide and fertilizer rooms and other farm facilities; and
recording work or maintenance activities using electronic or manual methods.
Work environment
The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Research and Development Centre (RDC) is one of 20 research centres that make up AAFC’s national research network. It is located in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.
The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu RDC helps the Canadian horticultural sector to stay competitive and sustainable by developing new knowledge and technologies in the field of horticultural crop protection, while taking a biovigilance and precision agriculture approach.
The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu RDC has three research farms, which are located in L’Acadie (near Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, J2Y 1C4), Sainte-Clotilde (J0L 1W0) and Frelighsburg (J0J 1C0).
Intent of the process
The intent is to create an inventory of qualified candidates at the GL-MAN-05 level in order to plan recruitment for the next summer season (starting April 1, 2024) for the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Research and Development Centre.
In the event that a public service employee is deemed to meet the essential qualifications as part of this process, the employee may be considered for an acting appointment, deployment, assignment or secondment.

Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance
Possession of a valid Quebec Class 5 driver’s license or provincial / territorial equivalent.
Ability and willingness to work overtime, including early in the morning and on evenings and weekends.
Ability and willingness to work outdoors in variable weather conditions.
Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work, such as moderate to heavy manual labour requiring bending and lifting heavy objects (weighing up to 22 kg) and kneeling.
Ability and willingness to work in harsh conditions (outdoors, cold, heat, dust, noise).
Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain certification for pesticide use.
Ability and willingness to handle chemicals used in agriculture and for maintaining machinery and buildings.
Ability and willingness to wear the personal protective equipment required for the tasks to be performed.
Ability and willingness to control allergies, through the use of personal protective equipment and / or medication, so that they do not impinge on the duties of the position.
Ability and willingness to work in the field, in large tunnels and in greenhouses.
