This position requires a relocation to Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan.

The Opportunity

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) will provide the functional expertise and foundational people support to safely drive productivity and engagement within both Operations and Woodlands departments at the Meadow Lake mill.

The HRBP will handle generalist responsibilities including recruitment and onboarding, training and development, safety program support, data collection and reporting, performance and talent management, partnering with line management to solve people and business problems, and supporting corporate HR initiatives while driving divisional talent and business strategies.

The Meadow Lake Mill was built in partnership with the government of Saskatchewan and First Nations and Metis communities.

On opening in 2003, it was their second greenfield (built from the ground up) mill. They became the sole owner of the mill in 2012 and now employ 180 people producing oriented strand board (OSB).

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and input for business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning while supporting the implementation of company-wide initiatives and partners with corporate HR to implement and support people programs and policies.
  • Collect, maintain and analyze HR statistics and metrics to provide information and recommendations to make gains in safety, productivity and engagement.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (ie. coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions) while working closely with management and employees to improve working relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provide expertise and guidance on employee relations issues and research and recommend revisions and updates to existing policies based on people, regulatory, statutory and business needs.
  • Seek out opportunities to engage with external stakeholders such as local colleges; local community agencies; training agencies and authorities;

and Indigenous groups or First Nations.

  • Provide advice and counsel to supervisors and employees on hourly benefit programs, including short-term and long-disability claims.
  • In cooperation with divisional management, administer efficient claims / disability management including Return to Work initiatives for WCB and non-work related disability claims.
  • Full cycle recruitment of salaried and hourly positions and ensuring the onboarding program is in place and completed to high standards, including benefits sign-up and orientation, and coordinating apprentice schooling / rates and related documentation.
  • Advise and coach supervisors and managers as they develop their direct reports while successfully supporting the timely delivery of the Performance Management process.
  • Deliver on-demand HR related training (ie. Supervisor Bootcamp) as required by business conditions and implement corporate training initiatives such as Respectful Workplace Program, Code of Conduct training and Alcohol & Drug Program.

Education and Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a human resources generalist within all components of the HR functions; ideally within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Previous experience with trades / apprenticeship recruitment and retention is preferred.
  • University degree or diploma in human resources or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is preferred.
  • Continuing record of professional development.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment standards, WCB and safety legislation.
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, HRIS software, and applicant tracking systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work in both team and self-directed environments.
  • Ability to operate with total confidentiality, professionalism and respect at all times.

Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan
