About PRT
PRT has grown from a humble beginning in 1988 with six nurseries to North America’s largest grower of forest seedlings. With 27 nurseries and 14 seed orchards across the US and Canada, we annually cultivate over 630 million high‑quality seedlings, playing a vital role in reforestation and sustainable forestry.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Crop Culture Management
- Execute the crop production plan, including water management, fertilization, and cultural programs as defined in Crop Prescriptions.
- Operate the Argus Environmental Control System—programming irrigation, climate controls, and alarm monitoring.
- Conduct detailed crop monitoring : morphological measurements, tissue nutrient analyses, and inspections for insects and disease. Implement the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program.
- Maintain and troubleshoot the Argus monitoring equipment and software, performing minor repairs or sensor replacements as needed.
- Assist with crop and growing material inventories, ensuring accurate record‑keeping using computerized systems.
Team Leadership, Training & Collaboration
Lead, train, coach, and mentor the growing team, fostering collaboration at all levels.Supervise seasonal irrigation employees and provide instruction on safe and efficient nursery practices.Manage daily resource allocation and shift scheduling to maximize efficiency and meet production targets.Set team targets (e.g., production, timelines) and evaluate goal achievement.Safety, Quality, & Reporting
Maintain workplace safety standards, adhering to all Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) and regulations.Act as a customer quality advocate, ensuring crops meet quality parameters.Provide regular feedback and growing program reports to the Nursery Manager.Qualifications
Required / Minimum Qualifications & Skills
Education : Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, Forestry, or related field.Crop Management : Proven hands‑on knowledge of conifer plant physiology, nutrient management, soil / substrate analysis, pest / disease identification, and advanced cultural techniques.Experience : Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a commercial nursery or agricultural production environment, with proven supervisory or management experience.IPM Proficiency : Demonstrated ability to execute a comprehensive IPM program.Environmental Control : Expertise in operating, programming, and troubleshooting computerized environmental control systems (e.g., Argus).Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.Physical : Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Pesticide Applicator Certificate.Ability to work independently.Ability to climb, stand and stoop for extended periods.Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).Greenhouse monitoring software and hardware experience, preferably Argus.Salary Information
$75,000 – $90,000 + 10% bonus (compensation based on experience and preferred qualifications).
