The OTW design team is a diverse team of creative and strategic thinkers, who are future thinking, detail-orientated and solution focussed. They are at the forefront of activewear and aware of macro lifestyle and fashion trends and how this relates to the active industry. They are passionate about Run, Train & Yoga and fulfilling every guest needs in their wardrobes. They are strong communicators who value and develop their cross functional relationships. core responsibilities
  • You are an outerwear expert. Whether for rain, snow, or performance, you are acutely versed in the materials, contructions, styling, and end-use needs that represent the world's best technical apparel.
  • Beyond technical outerwear and outdoor, you have a keen fashion sense and keep up with relevant trends and brands -from streetwear to runway- and have the ability to translate those trends for your category.
  • You combine active product use experience, market knowledge, trend research, and collaboration between lululemon designers to create functional, innovative, quality designs. You will have a clear reference point in terms of understanding product storytelling, design and construction.
  • You understand body forms, expert in how to conceptualize, create and convey ideas and technical information during your design process.
  • You partner with ambassadors/athletes to continually elevate and innovate our product.
  • Research and stay informed of relevant global cultural and aesthetic trends, and global guest preferences. Analyze how trends and colours emerge and influence your product category. Collate research, identify patterns and draw conclusions. Edit research through the lens of our brand strategy.
  • Create black and white sketches, in accordance with research, brand identity and in fulfillment of the brief intent and IMU targets. Present sketches to Design leaders.
  • Select fabrics and trims from the Raw Material library for your styles.
  • Apply colour and approved graphics to the assortment, inclusive of new, core and carryover styles, in consideration of feasibility, known limitations and commercial viability.
  • Complete technical sketches detailing materials, construction techniques, trims, and fit. Handover the tech sketches to PD/TD and collaborate with technical developers to ensure accuracy and commercial feasibility
  • Present coloured-up sketches to cross-functional partners for sketch review sign off. Clearly communicate its alignment to the brief, the sources of inspiration, and references for your design.
  • Maintain the colour assortment as required, based on feedback and change requests from Design leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Fit styles to ensure design intent is accurately captured and IMU targets are met. Identify opportunities for improvements and making recommendations for necessary adjustments.
  • Present physical prototypes of on-body garments to cross functional partners to prepare for commercial sign-off at proto review.


qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience
  • BA, BFA or BS in Design required (or equivalent)
  • High proficiency in Adobe Suite (In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • An understanding of and interest in 3D and Generative AI design tools is required
  • Design Skills - To creatively conceptualize, design and construct garments that are aesthetically pleasing, functional and commercially viable, using a blend of artistic vision, technical expertise and industry knowledge.
  • Communication - Clearly articulate design ideas and concepts to the team, stakeholders and cross functional partners, both verbally and visually. It also involves listening and incorporating feedback.
  • Aesthetic Intelligence - Understand and appreciate the nuances of design. It involves an understanding of beauty and style in order to create designs that are visually pleasing and resonate with the target audience. It involves a deep understanding of the Brand's aesthetic and the ability to produce designs that align with the brand's vision and guests.
  • Innovative Thinking - Generate new ideas, processes and solutions that push the boundaries of product creation. It involves thinking outside of the box to produce fresh, innovative ideas.
  • Global market Understanding and Brand Alignment - Translate global fashion trends and consumer behaviours into designs that align and enhance brand's identity and reputation.

compensation and benefits package

lululemon's compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $119,200-156,500 CAD annually ; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
