Job Title: Industrial Assembler – Heavy Equipment

Job Description

This role focuses on assembling heavy industrial equipment using kitted parts, detailed drawings, and standardized procedures in a clean, safety-focused production environment. You will review schematics, bring pre-kitted parts to the build area, assemble components using hand and power tools, and support hydronic testing once trained. The position involves repetitive tasks, moderate physical activity, and close collaboration with a supportive team committed to continuous skills development.

Responsibilities

  • Receive kitted jobs and transport parts to the designated assembly area using appropriate equipment when needed.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, schematics, and detailed drawings to understand how components fit and function together.
  • Assemble heavy industrial equipment using wrenches and other tools, working with parts ranging in size from approximately 12 inches up to 6 feet.
  • Perform repetitive assembly tasks, including using the same wrench and tools repeatedly to meet daily production requirements.
  • Complete multiple jobs per day, with the ability to assemble and finalize up to approximately 15 items daily as required.
  • Support hydronic testing of assembled equipment after training, following established procedures and safety protocols.
  • Use an MRP or ERP system to log in and out of jobs accurately, recording work performed and time spent on each task.
  • Lift components weighing up to 50 pounds, using proper lifting techniques and, when necessary, overhead cranes or forklifts to move heavier or awkward items.
  • Ensure all required parts, tools, and materials are available before starting each job by organizing and verifying job kits.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to shop rules.
  • Collaborate with leads, supervisors, and coworkers, assisting other teams as needed and contributing to a team-first culture.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, supporting a tidy, safe, and efficient shop environment.
  • Participate in training, apprenticeships, and skills development opportunities to expand technical capabilities and support internal career growth.
  • Remain flexible to support overtime and after-hours work, including occasional Saturdays, when business needs require it.

Required Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience assembling heavy industrial equipment or similar large mechanical systems.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and related testing processes.
  • Experience operating an overhead crane for moving heavy parts and assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and detailed mechanical drawings.
  • Experience using an MRP or ERP system, or similar computer-based system, to log in and out of jobs and track work.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, including comfort working with tools and mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience operating a forklift to safely transport materials and equipment.
  • Strong safety mindset, with consistent adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Good organizational skills, including the ability to ensure all required parts and tools are available before starting work.
  • Punctuality and reliable attendance, confirmed through previous work history or references.
  • Willingness to perform repetitive tasks and maintain focus and quality throughout the shift.
  • Flexibility to assist other teams and take on tasks outside of a narrow job description.

Nice to Have Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Understanding of hydraulic systems and components, including their function within heavy equipment.
  • Formal training or certification in overhead crane operation.
  • Forklift certification or ticket.
  • Experience working on military vehicles, heavy construction equipment such as excavators, large gearboxes, transmissions, or hydraulics.
  • Comfort working in a production environment with both machining and assembly operations.
  • Openness to overtime, including potential after-hours or Saturday work as needed.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a collaborative and respectful approach.
  • Interest in apprenticeship opportunities and ongoing technical training.
  • Ability to adapt to different tasks and support various teams within the shop.

Why Work Here?

The organization places safety as its top priority and fosters a respectful, family-oriented, and team-focused culture where employees support one another and share success. Employees benefit from a clean, bright, and environmentally conscious facility, as well as strong benefits, incentive plans, and regular bonus opportunities tied to overall plant performance. The company invests heavily in growth and development, offering apprenticeships, education reimbursement, and clear paths to advance into other roles in the shop. A collaborative environment, long-tenured workforce, and diverse team create a stable and inclusive workplace, complemented by celebrations such as BBQs, special lunches, and recognition events when possible.

Work Environment

The role is based in an approximately 80,000-square-foot shop that is very clean, bright, and organized, with about half of the space dedicated to machining and half to assembly. The facility includes three paint booths, an enclosed welding shop, a lunch room with two TVs, and a training room, all within an environmentally conscious operation. You will work closely with a lead, a supervisor, and other employees in a shop of around 40 people, alongside a team of 12–30 machinists who can provide support and collaboration. The environment emphasizes safety and cleanliness, with no strong machine shop odors and a focus on maintaining a tidy workspace. Personal protective equipment is provided, and appropriate footwear is required. Typical shift hours are approximately 7:00 . to 3:15 ., with one 30-minute break and one 15-minute break, and the option to adjust to a 6:00 . to 2:15 . schedule after probation. There may be opportunities for after-hours work, Saturday shifts, or future afternoon shifts, including potential 4x10 schedules, depending on business needs. The work can be physically demanding at times, involving lifting up to 50 pounds, but overhead cranes and forklifts are available to assist with heavier or awkward loads. The dress code is typical for an industrial shop environment, with required safety footwear and provided PPE to support safe and comfortable work.
