Job description
GSSD invites applications for a First Nations Pow Wow Drumming InstructorThe First Nations Pow Wow Drumming Instructor will share traditional knowledge and provide hands-on drumming instruction to students in Good Spirit School Division schools. This role supports GSSD’s commitment to fostering a culturally inclusive and respectful environment by promoting understanding and appreciation of First Nations traditions, protocols, and worldviews.Location: Various GSSD Schools Compensation: contracted - $150 per session (defined as a scheduled morning or afternoon in a GSSD school). Mileage reimbursement Contact details: Angella Pinay, Superintendent of Indigenous Education (306) 590-8386 The successful applicant will have the following knowledge, skills, abilities and educational background:Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Pow Wow drumming and First Nations cultural practices.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work collaboratively with school staff and students.This role is designated for candidates of Indigenous ancestry. Key Responsibilities:Lead Pow Wow drumming sessions in GSSD schools, scheduled as either a morning or afternoon session.Teach students the cultural significance, protocols, and techniques of Pow Wow drumming.Collaborate with school-based administrators and staff to create engaging, culturally responsive learning experiences.Promote respect for Indigenous traditions and ensure cultural protocols are followed during sessions.Build positive relationships with students, staff, and community members. This position is designated for qualified equity group members who self-declare in this online application, as identified in "diversity groups" below.
