Job Summary

The Indigenous Partnerships and Pathways (IPP) Coordinator works closely with the AVP Xwexwilmexwawt, cultural advisors, and Indigenous faculty and staff at the university. The IPP Coordinator provides culturally imbued leadership and administrative support of Xwexwilmexwawt, university-wide Indigenization initiatives and in attaining the strategic vision of Indigenous communities and the associated Service Plans.

The IPP Coordinator assists in the development of relationships with Indigenous Nations, educators, leaders and communities. The IPP Coordinator supports Indigenous partnership agreements that exist between the University, First Nations and Indigenous organizations. The IPP Coordinator supports the life-cycle of projects in the Indigenous Partnerships and Pathways program, delivered by Xwexwílmexwawt. The IPP Coordinator consults and collaborates with internal service areas including the Indigenous Student Centre, Indigenization Committees, academic units, Finance, the Registrar, and student services. The IPP Coordinator is a key support to Indigenous events and activities on campus and/or initiated by Xwexwílmexwawt, and the University at large.

Qualifications

  • The preferred applicant will be of demonstrable Indigenous ancestry and have extensive knowledge of Indigenous lived experiences and contemporary capacity building at national, provincial and regional levels.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. A combination of experience and Indigenous centered training may be deemed equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience, preferably in an Indigenous adult environment, with evidence of progressive career development.
  • Extensive knowledge and direct experience in Indigenous ways of knowing and worldviews, Indigenous protocols, and community engagement, particularly from a Stó:lõ lens.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships grounded in Reciprocity, Respect, Relevance and Responsibility, with colleagues, community members, Indigenous Elders, leaders, and knowledge keepers.
  • Understands deeply and embraces a distinctions-based approach to the work with Indigenous peoples.
  • Experience building effective relationships and partnerships towards community engagement.
  • Superior interpersonal and written/oral communication skills: oral, written; listening, reading; use of social media and marketing; meeting and group discussion facilitation skills
  • Experience working with organizations and agencies dedicated to the development and support of Indigenous peoples.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills; self-directed, proactive, and discreet.
  • Proven ability to work with minimal or no supervision, multi-task, and work to tight deadlines with conflicting priorities.
  • Strong technical/computer skills (MS Windows and Apple/Mac platforms, including Zoom, Teams and Blackboard, and MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Detailed knowledge of UFV Faculties, programs, policies, and procedures preferred.
  • Experience liaising with external agencies/institutions/partners is an asset.
