JOB SUMMARY:
The NYCE Facilitator is responsible for leading the day-to-day administrative duties associated with our Newcomer Youth Community Engagement program (NYCE), and will be the first point of contact for colleagues, clients, and community stakeholders who contact the NYCE program. In addition, they will work with other NYCE Facilitators to develop, coordinate, implement, and facilitate activities used to support newcomer youth by engaging them in a variety of workshops, training sessions, and community engagement opportunities. These activities provide newcomer youth with a continuum of services to support their settlement, education, health, wellness, and social integration.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Perform data entry duties into database system (CRM) including participant and volunteer registration, attendance, daily activity reports, and monthly reports on activities, deliverables, and outlined targets.
- Monitor the NYCE program email account regularly, responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of creative programs, initiatives, and activities, including workshops, trainings, presentations, community service endeavors, trips, and excursions to engage newcomer youth in a balanced mix of educational, social, inclusive, and integrative ways.
- Facilitate activities to support newcomer youth in identifying and articulating needs, interests, community strengths, and gaps in available resources.
- Provide opportunities for youth to be challenged cognitively and emotionally in a safe, positive, and supporting environment.
- Take advantage of spontaneous learning and development opportunities in everyday situations using positive interaction and proactive intervention.
- Model emotional maturity, respect, empathy, humility, and sensitivity when interacting with youth and families who require assistance, mindful support, or are from culturally diverse populations.
- Facilitate newcomer youth’s recognition and respect of the cultural background, values, and behaviors of their peers.
- Create opportunities to increase community belonging and inclusivity through a DEI approach.
- Work with the Outreach team to coordinate program and activity awareness social media posts
- Utilize various engagement methods alongside a collaborative, interdisciplinary team (SWIS, Settlement, Employment, LINC, etc.) to maximize community outreach, program participation, and program retention.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with youth-serving organizations, collaboratively programming for newcomer and marginalized youth, and proactively assist in life skills development.
- Facilitate school visits by leading workshops, presentations, activities, and engagement opportunities for newcomer youth.
- Attend and support outreach events within the community to promote the NYCE program, strengthen community connections, and increase youth engagement and participation.
- Complete other duties and activities as assigned by the Youth Services Manager and Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE): - Post-secondary education with, or actively pursuing a Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Child Youth Care, Social Service Worker, Community Development, a related Human Services program, or related experience in a relevant field.
- Knowledge and understanding of the settlement sector, the refugee experience, and the strengths, barriers, and challenges of newcomer youth.
- Fluent in both English and an addition language considered a strong asset, demonstrating effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with youth and families from an equitable, anti-oppressive framework from various cultural, ethnic, social-economic, and developmental backgrounds.
- Excellent communicator with the proven ability to interact, form lasting relationships with, and gain trust of colleagues and clients at all levels.
- Proven ability to advocate for and mentor youth to encourage social inclusion and reduce unhealthy behavior using harm reduction principles.
- Experience in youth program design, development, implementation and administration.
- Able to manage crises and emergency situations with critical thinking skills, de-escalate and manage and resolve conflict effectively, and solve problems creatively.
- Excellent time management, project management, and organizational skills; able to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of administrative accuracy.
- Able to work non-standard hours, usually 1:30 pm to 7:00 pm, as required for a total of 25 hours per week with some flexibility required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Internet use, and digital media/design tools such as Canva.
- Standard First Aid, CPR-C, AED, and ASIST, and Food Handlers certificates considered assets.
