Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Education Resource Centre is a Nursery to Grade 12 school serving approximately 1,300 students and a professional staff of 90, including 3 Vice-Principals. It is one of the largest and most unique schools in the province. The school is located in Norway House, Manitoba which is a thriving community situated at the picturesque tip of Lake Winnipeg and the Nelson River. The community is fully serviced with a hospital, shopping mall, two community recreation complexes, a post-secondary campus and daily air service. Qualifications : Bachelor of Education Degree and valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for) Fluency in the Cree language an asset Knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action Previous land-based education teaching experience or other relevant experience Certification in First Aid required.Hunter safety, flat water canoe and boating would be an asset Land-Based Education Duties and Responsibilities : Provide instruction to increase students’ ability to incorporate land-based practices, protocols and way of life that promotes identity and culture Establish connections within the local community that support the growth of Indigenous Land-Based Education, Language and Way of Life Assist in the coordination of school cultural activities in cooperation with fellow teachers and community knowledge keepers Facilitate Indigenous Land-Based Education camps Coordinate assigned budget, equipment and materials inventory and any maintenance of equipment Ensure safety standards Learning Support Duties and Responsibilities : Current knowledge of effective literacy and numeracy instruction and assessment practices Experience providing, creating and implementing individualized programming for At Risk students and students with special needs Knowledge and experience with balanced literacy, guided Reading, guided Math, Fountas and Pinnell Strong planning and communication skills A strong background in language development Knowledge and implementation of cooperative learning / small group instruction Ability to work in classrooms alongside teachers, colleagues and contribute collaboratively as a team member Certification as a trained Reading Recovery™ teacher would be considered an asset.
