Job description

Professional Standards Coordinator

Support legal excellence and fair, effective professional regulation.

CPA Ontario is not like other organizations

We operate at a rare intersection, both regulator and membership body, responsible for upholding the integrity of the CPA designation while supporting more than 105,000 members and 19,000 students across the province. Our work sits between business and the public interest, between the evolving demands of industry and the standards that make trust possible.

Careers built here tend to look different because the work itself is different. You are not simply contributing to an organization. You are helping shape a profession that touches nearly every sector of the economy at a moment when expectations, technology, and the nature of work are all being rewritten.

About This Opportunity:

CPA Ontario is seeking a Professional Standards Coordinator to support the investigation and prosecution of professional misconduct complaints against members, students, and firms on behalf of the Professional Conduct Committee. In this role, you will assist the Senior Vice President, Enforcement, and our team of Professional Standards Counsel with investigation and disciplinary processes, provide administrative and operational support to investigators, and help ensure matters are managed in accordance with departmental procedures. As part of CPA Ontario's Regulatory and Standards Unit, this role supports the protection of the public interest and the integrity of the CPA designation.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Prosecutions Execution:

  • Draft, prepare, and coordinate legal documents, court filings, and prosecution materials for counsel review.
  • Manage prosecution, judicial review, discipline, and appeal files, ensuring accurate records, compliance, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Conduct file reviews, conflict checks, legal research, and case law searches to support legal proceedings.
  • Liaise with courts, tribunals, process servers, and external stakeholders regarding filings, service, records, and procedural matters.
  • Monitor and administer decisions, orders, compliance activities, and post-hearing file management processes.

Investigations Execution:

  • Coordinate and support investigation files, tracking activities, budgets, deadlines, and case progress.
  • Prepare, organize, and manage legal and committee materials for investigations and Professional Conduct Committee proceedings.
  • Liaise with investigators, counsel, members, and internal stakeholders to facilitate meetings, communications, and file administration.
  • Maintain investigator records and support evidence review, document management, reporting, and investigation-related research activities.
  • Provide advanced document production, records management, and cross-functional administrative support to the investigations team.

Budget, Finance and Statistical Analysis:

  • Track and administer investigation, discipline, and legal proceeding costs, invoices, accruals, and payment processes.
  • Prepare financial reports, budget forecasts, cost recovery documentation, and departmental reporting.
  • Analyze and report on key performance indicators, caseload metrics, and operational trends.
  • Develop executive reports, dashboards, and presentations using advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Support financial planning, budgeting, and reporting activities to inform decision-making and resource management.

To Be Successful You Need:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Legal Office Administration, or a related field, or a Law Clerk designation. A Paralegal designation and membership with the Law Society of Ontario are considered assets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, complemented by strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including individuals in challenging situations.
  • Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet competing deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive, private, and confidential information.
  • Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with Visio, FileCloud, SharePoint, Salesforce, case management systems, and e-discovery software is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and document review skills, with the ability to read and interpret business and legal documents. Experience in investigative or forensic accounting, regulatory matters, or a legal environment is preferred.

Salary Range

  • The starting annual salary range for this position is between $53,000 - $66,300 per annum, based on your qualifications, experience, and internal parity. Exceptions may be considered with further review.

Why Join CPA Ontario?

  • We support your well-being through industry-leading benefits, mental health resources, savings programs, and a sustainable approach to how work gets done.
  • We are committed to inclusion as a core part of how we operate, not as an afterthought.
  • We have a hybrid working environment, with three days a week on-site, complemented by 2 days of work-from-home time. We are intentional about that: the work we do benefit from being together. We want those days you work from home to be comfortable and offer a one-time bonus towards a home office when you start.
  • We invest in your growth through learning and professional development opportunities, stretch projects, secondments, and genuine paths for career progression.
  • We move quickly. The pace reflects the profession we serve; it can be demanding, but the work matters, and the team around you is invested in the same outcomes you have.

We appreciate your interest in CPA Ontario and this position

At CPA Ontario, we are committed to building high-performance teams. Our selection process is thorough, fair and run by humans. All suitable applications are reviewed by someone on our Recruitment team, and if your qualifications and experience meet the requirements of this role, we’ll be in touch. We encourage you to set up CPA Ontario job alerts for positions that align to your experience and career goals.
