The Team

About Athletics & Recreation:

Sport and recreation have the power to change people's lives and build communities of engaged citizens. The Department of Athletics and Recreation’s mission is to champion the development of the whole student through sporting excellence and active wellbeing. Through this, we empower our varsity athletes to achieve their full potential both athletically and academically. With our recreation programs we focus on active wellbeing as a learning strategy, providing opportunities for students to thrive socially, personally and at their studies.

Our programs, along with our commitment to the communities we serve, foster a spirit of belonging and pride, and contribute to a civil and sustainable society. Be it in the sports arena, on the field, or in our athletic and fitness centers, we engage students, faculty and alumni beyond the classroom.

In the last five years, TMU’s teams have achieved historic firsts for rankings and championships. Meanwhile, they have reached new heights for academic achievement, such as overall athlete GPA, while breaking records with volunteer service hours. As a result, TMU alumni are people who make a difference wherever they go.

TMU Bold operates 8 varsity teams on which 180 student-athletes compete nationally in U SPORTS, and an additional 3 departmentally supported teams which compete in the Ontario University Athletics Conference.

The Opportunity

Are you passionate about sports, sporting events and the fan student fan experience? Are you a creative and organized professional with a passion for sports marketing, communications, and sporting event coordination and execution? We’re looking for a Marketing and Events Coordinator to support our Athletics and Recreation department in bringing its varsity sports programs, game day activations, and events to life.

This is a high-energy, boots-on-the-ground position focused on community engagement, varsity sports event execution, and in-game fan activation. The successful candidate will play a key role in growing our fan base by engaging directly with students, youth sports communities across the GTA, and local sports fans.

In this role, you’ll plan, design, develop, and execute a wide range of marketing, communications, and event materials across web, print, digital, and social media platforms to help amplify and promote all TMU Bold varsity team home games. You’ll coordinate the planning, production and execution of all game day marketing and event deliverables to support departmental initiatives and engagement goals.

The successful candidate will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the unit — including budget administration — and will develop and execute detailed event work plans using project management tools to ensure every campaign and event runs seamlessly.

This role requires a flexible schedule, including days, evenings (often past 10:30pm), and weekends to support approximately 100 home games per year. March is the playoff season, which involves rapid execution and limited pre-planning time.

Key responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of this role is to support varsity athletics by engaging campus and external communities, with the goal of increasing fan attendance and creating a vibrant game-day atmosphere. The role coordinates the planning and execution of game-day operations, partnerships, promotions, and activations. It is responsible for implementing comprehensive pre-season and in-season strategies for all TMU Bold home events, with a focus on driving attendance, enhancing fan engagement, and fostering community connection. Success in this role is measured by achieving an annual 10% increase in attendance and engagement across TMU and external audiences.

  • Coordinates marketing and communications projects from planning to implementation; Participates and assists the planning and design of projects and events; works closely with internal clients, Varsity Coaches, the Athletic Director , Director of Recreation, Equity & Active Well-being and unit supervisors to determine the annual operational needs and project objectives.
  • Coordinates the production of marketing and communications assets and events; Works with internal stakeholders and external vendors and printers to identify content concepts and determine creative execution, video, photographic, design, event planning, game day promotions and prizes and other resource requirements, as applicable.
  • Provides analytical and administrative support on day-to-day project activities; Maintains, optimizes, updates and provides analytic impact reports relating to marketing initiatives. Makes appropriate recommendations based on the analysis of the reports.
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute varsity game day activations, fan engagement, and event operations, including run-of-show documents.
  • Serve as the on-site contact for varsity games, liaising with the Oak View Group (OVG) and resolving last-minute event changes.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including student groups, community organizations, and vendors.
  • Supervise part-time student staff and track project progress, milestones, and completion.
  • Collaborate on pre-game campus promotions and mascot scheduling; prepare cost estimates and manage vendor quotes.
  • Support financial processes by reconciling reports and tracking project expenses.
  • Lead on- and off-campus engagement efforts—including campus events, youth sports leagues, and community activations—to drive attendance and elevate the fan experience at varsity games.
  • Plan and execute all home games, in-game activations, promotions, event bookings (DJs, MCs, vendors, performers), scripts, run-of-show documents, printing/signage needs, and mascot operations to deliver high-quality game-day experiences.
  • Coordinate and schedule student staff, manage vendor relationships and budgets, support EDI initiatives, and track game attendance and expenses to support operational efficiency and annual reporting.

Qualifications
To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:
