Job description

Hive Engineering is an Atlantic Canadian, employee-owned, engineering consulting firm. Due to a sustained increase in workload, Hive is seeking an Intermediate Environmental Professional / Engineer to join our team. This position will be based out of our head office in Moncton, New Brunswick.

This job is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional looking to advance their career in consulting engineering in Atlantic Canada.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have :

  • A degree in engineering (civil, geological, environmental, mechanical, or chemical) or a degree in geoscience from a Canadian-accredited university.
  • 5-10 years of experience in environmental consulting or related fields, ideally in Atlantic Canada.
  • A Professional Engineer ( P.Eng. ) or Professional Geoscientist ( P.Geo. ) designation, or eligibility for registration with APEGNB, Engineers Nova Scotia, or equivalent regulatory bodies.
  • A valid driver’s license, insurance, and vehicle for travel to and from project sites.

REQUIRED SKILLS

The following skills and attributes are essential for success in this role :

  • Strong technical writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills, with experience in preparing client-ready reports and deliverables.
  • Advanced project management and organizational abilities, including managing multiple concurrent projects effectively.
  • Proficiency with technical tools and software, such as Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, QGIS / ArcGIS, Power BI, and / or gINT.
  • A comprehensive understanding of environmental regulations, permits, and assessment standards in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.
  • A demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance.
  • Practical experience conducting and overseeing fieldwork, including soil and groundwater sampling programs, hazardous material assessments, and / or environmental monitoring.
  • An ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working with heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, drill rigs, etc.) and understanding of associated safety protocols.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Intermediate Environmental Professional / Engineer will play a key role in delivering complex environmental projects across Atlantic Canada. Key responsibilities include :

  • Leading the preparation of project deliverables, including Phase I / II / III Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Hazardous Building Materials Assessments, and Closure Reports.
  • Developing and managing field programs, including soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and vapour sampling, as well as hazardous building material and designated substance sampling.
  • Analyzing and interpreting environmental data, including laboratory results, borehole / test pit logs, and field notes, to provide practical recommendations.
  • Preparing technical proposals, budgets, and work plans for environmental projects.
  • Providing expert guidance to clients regarding regulatory requirements and project strategies, ensuring compliance with local and provincial regulations.
  • Coordinating with laboratories, subcontractors, clients, and third-party stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
  • Mentoring junior staff members, providing training, and reviewing their work to maintain quality standards.
  • Supporting business development initiatives by identifying new opportunities, building client relationships, and contributing to proposals.
  • This position requires travel within Atlantic Canada and may involve occasional overtime to meet project deadlines.
