Join a company that is passionately committed to the pursuit of a better world through positive change. With more than 70 years of business and technical expertise in mining, energy, and infrastructure, our 10,000 colleagues in 150 countries tirelessly work toward bettering the industries in which we operate. The Hatch Project Delivery Group is seeking an experienced Risk Analyst with a strong interest in the Risk Discipline. Reporting to the Principal, Risk, you will support projects globally based out of our Mississauga location. We are looking for a practitioner with 7+ years of experience in process safety, technical risk, and project risk, ideally within EPC/EPCM environments in the oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical, or mining sectors.

  • Gain experience in the office and on project sites
  • Collaborate with diverse teams locally and globally
  • Work in an exciting environment where you can apply your technical expertise on a daily basis
  • Benefit from formal and informal mentorship from some of the leading minds and authorities in the industry
  • Participate in local Professional Development Programs, i.e., Lunch and Learns, Toastmasters, and more to develop your skills
  • Join in charitable, social, and sports activities with other Hatch employees

We're entrepreneurs with a technical soul. Our flat organizational structure creates an atmosphere of openness and participation. We build practical solutions that are safe, innovative, and sustainable. Our ultimate goal is to achieve no harm for our people, our clients, and our communities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop effective relationships with clients, Engagement Managers, Business Directors, and the engagement team
  • Assist in risk planning for assigned engagements and configure engagements in iPas RM, Hatch's risk management system
  • Facilitate risk workshops and link identified risks to engagement and business unit objectives and/or strategic organizational goals and strategies
  • Plan and facilitate hazard and process safety studies, including HAZOP and HAZID/HAZAN
  • Conduct Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA), including consequence modeling (e.g., PHAST) and risk calculation (e.g., Safeti), to support design and safety case decisions
  • Perform LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis) and support SIL assessments/SIL determination for safety instrumented systems
  • Support functional safety and design reviews across process, fire protection, and F&G (fire & gas) systems
  • Maintain the engagement risk register in iPas RM and ensure all risks and their characteristics are appropriately and accurately documented; ensure the quality and integrity of risk data
  • Assess the effectiveness of risk management processes across the organization and recommend improvements
  • Participate in project set-up and closure reviews, project gate reviews, project management reviews, quality audits, and risk management independent reviews, recommending actions for improvement
  • Assist with the development of risk management procedures
  • Track metrics to demonstrate a cultural acceptance of risk management throughout the region
  • Contribute to fostering a knowledge-sharing culture by actively participating in risk knowledge networks and collaborative forums

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Applied Science, or Master of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering (or related discipline) from an accredited university; a Master's degree in Safety and Risk Engineering or Process Safety is an asset
  • 7+ years of experience in process safety, technical risk, and/or project risk management, ideally on EPC/EPCM projects
  • Practical, hands-on experience conducting HAZOP and HAZID studies
  • Solid understanding of the risk management process and demonstrated ability to adapt it to client and project needs; understands how risk creates value on projects
  • Experience with QRA tools such as PHAST and/or Safeti, and working knowledge of LOPA and SIL assessment, is a strong asset

Competencies (Knowledge, Skill, Attributes)

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications and modern risk management information systems and technologies (i.e., Predict!, iPas RM, etc.)
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills in English. Similar skills in a second language such as French, Spanish, Portuguese, or Chinese are desirable
  • Ability to understand, adapt, and apply relevant risk management policies, procedures, standards, tools, and technical requirements to the project or Business Unit context
  • Ability to work on the risk management programs of concurrent multiple projects
  • Ability to manage competing priorities effectively, be resourceful, and use time as a resource — routine requirement to work to deadlines imposed by clients, which may require completion of unplanned risk management activities in a short time frame
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external clients; establish trust, credibility, and respect
  • Highly skilled in the production of reports and presentations
  • Ability to travel to other Hatch offices or project sites as required
  • Shows critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and brings forward solutions for our clients' toughest challenges
