Student Care Navigator (PS4)Professional SupportSydney Waterfront CampusSydney, Nova ScotiaDepartment of Student ServicesContinuing Full-time Position: Commencing approximately December 8, 2025Application deadline is 11:59PM, November 20, 2025Competition No. 2526-291The salary scale for Professional Support 4 is based on steps that range from $77,924.62 - $100,491.74. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $88,020.79 annually. Responsibilities Reporting to the Manager, Student Services with a functional reporting line to the Manager, Student Care and Community Standards, you will:Play a key role on the campus supporting students with focus in the following areas: complex student case management, student non-academic policy caretaker and campus educator.Receive, review, and respond to all concerning non-academic student behavioral issues.Provide complex case management for student behavioural files to ensure that issues brought forward by community members are addressed collaboratively, with ongoing communication and with a care plan that supports student belonging, wellbeing, and academic success within a framework of accountability.Connect students to appropriate and culturally specific services and ensure that they are followed and supported in their academic journey.Oversee, in consultation/collaboration with Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion, the campus response to complex files that involve intersecting concerns including human rights, discrimination, racism, sexualized violence among other issues.Engage in practical problem solving and service navigation to provide a seamless transition and access to support for any student.Collaborate with counselling, cultural support, accessibility, advising and academics as required.Caretake various student facing non-academic policies including Student Community Standards and Campus Care Team, along with referring to the Committee overseeing Mandated Supported Leave.Support the work of student issues related to the Sexual Violence Policy as required and understand gender-based violence (GBV) in post-secondary.Ensure accurate files are kept and understand the importance of timely documentation for file progression and for effective case management.Interpret policy, understand, and evaluate competing rights along with making recommendations for policy and procedure updates as required.Design, facilitate, evaluate, and thematically report on educational initiatives delivered to the campus community and develop tools to support student success.Provide holistic student-centered support, early intervention, and response to non-academic student behaviors of concern.Provide educational opportunities to campus around student issues of concern, effective responding along with policy understanding. Qualifications Qualifications and Occupational Experience: The minimum educational qualification for this position is a Bachelor of Social Work with registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers or other regulated health professional.You have a certificate in Restorative Justice. Applicants without a certificate in Restorative Justice may also be considered. You have Certification/Studies in Case Management.You have a minimum of three (3) years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in the following areas:Complex case management, adhering to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.Creating, monitoring, and evaluating safety and care plans.Mental health and accessibility.Using trauma informed care for support.Using intervention techniques, conducting assessments, and understanding the interpretation of psychosocial assessments.Working collaboratively to create solutions using a strengths-based framework.Working with confidential reports and documentation.Experience in a post-secondary environment would be an asset.Experience with education/program development, implementation, facilitation and evaluation would be an asset.You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite and email.You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.Relevant Skills and Knowledge: You demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and anti-racism.You possess excellent interpersonal skills that enable you to interact with a diversity of people and support resolution of issues.You are known for your superior customer service skills and can create a relationship of trust beyond the immediate interaction.Your superb team working skills enable you to contribute positively to a team environment.You have occupational knowledge and skill in strengths-based assessment.You are known for your problem solving and critical thinking skills.You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to collaboration with various individuals, departments, and agencies for student success.You have proven records and information management skills and abilities.You have an understanding of trauma, equity and historical/structural harm.You have an understanding of the principles and associated codes/policies around Human Rights, accessibility, diversity, and educational equity.You have an understanding of culture and barriers to post-secondary education faced by some communities.You have an understanding and application of relational policy work.You have the ability to make decisions in situations with ambiguity.You are dedicated to life-long learning.
