MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking two Senior Bridge Engineers on behalf of our client to join their growing Bridge team in either Calgary or Edmonton.
This role combines senior-level bridge design and technical leadership with project delivery, client management, and staff mentorship. The successful candidates will work across new bridge design, rehabilitation, evaluation, and replacement projects, ranging from pedestrian bridges to major transportation structures.
A key part of this position is mentoring and developing junior and intermediate engineers and technologists. The team has a strong group of developing professionals, and our client is looking for someone who genuinely enjoys providing technical guidance, answering questions, and helping others progress in their careers.
- Location: Calgary or Edmonton, AB – Hybrid (up to 2 days/week WFH)
Responsibilities
- Lead the structural design of bridge and transportation infrastructure projects.
- Act as a technical design lead and Engineer of Record on assigned projects.
- Deliver projects across the bridge lifecycle, including new design, rehabilitation, evaluation, and replacement.
- Lead design teams and provide technical direction throughout project delivery.
- Design and review structures in accordance with the current CSA S6 Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, technical deliverables, and client expectations.
- Work on projects ranging from pedestrian bridges to major highway and transportation structures.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers and technologists.
- Review engineering calculations, drawings, reports, and other technical deliverables.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with provincial and municipal clients.
- Support proposals, pursuits, and other business development activities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver technically sound and practical solutions.
- Support the continued development of technical capabilities and engineering standards within the Bridge team.
Qualifications - Must-Haves
- P.Eng. registered with APEGA or eligible for registration within 3 months.
- Approximately 10+ years of structural engineering experience, with a substantial focus on bridge and transportation structures; strong candidates with 8+ years may also be considered.
- Strong hands-on bridge design experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing to the CSA S6 Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code.
- Ability to act as Engineer of Record and seal engineering drawings.
- Experience across multiple stages of the bridge lifecycle, including new design, rehabilitation, evaluation, and replacement.
- Project management experience covering scope, schedule, budget, and client relationships.
- Consulting engineering background.
- Strong client-facing, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and providing technical direction to junior and intermediate staff.
- Collaborative and approachable leadership style with a genuine interest in developing others.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience delivering bridge projects for Alberta Transportation and/or municipal clients.
- Track record delivering bridge projects for other Western Canadian owners.
- Business development experience, including proposals, pursuits, and client relationship management.
- Master's degree in Structural or Bridge Engineering.
- Registration or willingness to register in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, or other Western Canadian provinces.
- Experience with CSiBridge and SAP2000.
- Experience with complex or signature structures, seismic design, load rating, or bridge management systems.
- Experience with pedestrian bridges, bridge-size culverts, retaining walls, sign structures, and other transportation structures.
