About the Role
The Frazer Faculty of Education invites applications from highly qualified scholars for a SSHRC, NSERC, or CIHR Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Artificial Intelligence in Education. This CRC appointment is intended for emerging scholars at the rank of assistant or associate professor (or those who possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed to these levels). Appointment is conditional on approval by the CRC Program of the submitted nomination for the Tier 2.

The Ideal Candidate
We seek a candidate who will enhance the field of Artificial Intelligence in Education in Canada and conceptualize education broadly across a wide range of learning contexts. The successful candidate must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Education or a related field aligned with the type of Tier 2 Chair (SSHRC, NSERC, or CIHR) with a primary focus on exploring AI in learning environments.
Candidate research interests may include but are not limited to: AI governance, AI approaches to personalized learning pathways, AI applications in teaching and learning, AI-powered assessment tools, AI for educational equity, AI for special education and accessibility, AI and gamification, AI in curriculum design, the future of work, AI and mental health, legal and ethical implications, and social implications of AI in education. The position should emphasize leveraging AI to drive systemic change across educational and interdisciplinary contexts.
Qualifications and Experience
- PhD degree, or equivalent, in Education or a relevant discipline based on the tri-council focus of the chair (SSHRC, NSERC, or CIHR).
- Preferred research skills in qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed methods, with quantitative skills considered an asset.
- Demonstrated potential for innovative scholarly research supported by external funding and a nationally or internationally recognized research program.
- Documented collaborations with government, industry, academia, practice, and/or not-for-profit sectors.
- Demonstrated potential for exemplary teaching and graduate supervision.
- Potential to cultivate and lead equitable, diverse, and inclusive interdisciplinary research partnerships and training of graduate students (HQP).
- A record of influential scholarship and contributions, evidenced by a CRC vision statement, research plan, high-quality publications, conference presentations, awards, and strong recommendations.
- Non-academic activities such as knowledge mobilization (KM) or knowledge translation (KT) will also be considered.
