Job Summary

Supervising the activities of construction projects - from working drawings through to the end of the guarantee period - is among your strengths as a Project Manager, and will be your primary role as part of the Maintenance Services team at the Peel District School Board (PDSB). Reporting to Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible to review engineering drawings, specifications and bid documents for PDSB compliance, and ensure the timely, on-budget completion of capital, renovation and renewal projects identified under the Board's Capital Plan.

Key Responsibilities

You will additionally be expected to prepare construction bids, recommend acceptance of, or changes to, working drawings and specifications for assigned projects, and monitor the performance of architects, consultants and contractors to ensure adherence to standards and regulations, confidently making on-the-spot decisions, as required. In our Board’s multi-stakeholder environment, you will liaise with contractors, consultants, architects, government officials, school principals and other Board staff, collecting and sharing project information, ensuring hazardous materials management and promoting environmental health and safety. A champion of best practices in the field, you will be a valuable resource for the department and the Board, compiling a full design history of external architects and consultants, researching the application of new construction concepts and systems, and developing and recommending design process standards and specifications. This is also a great opportunity to demonstrate your presentation and communication skills along with your technical expertise, as you work closely with schools and departments across the Board to resolve any project-related issues, liaise with the Board solicitor on matters relating to the Construction Act, and prepare reports for the Board and Committees.

Qualifications

  • Degree/diploma in engineering, architecture or project management with extensive experience/background in institutional and/or commercial buildings, or an equivalent combination of relevant post‑secondary education
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of related experience in progressively responsible positions and a working knowledge of all related trade disciplines
  • Excellent skills in managing several concurrent new construction and building renovation projects, with hands‑on project management experience being essential
  • Knowledge of Building codes, engineering standards and practices, health and safety legislation and Ministry of Labour standards
  • Excellent technical, presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated coordination, project management, initiative, decision‑making, problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent budget management, organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment

Additional Notes

Preference will be given to qualified members of the Administrative Staff Group (ASG).

Commitment to Equity, Anti‑Oppression and Anti‑Racism

The Peel District School Board is committed to equity in employment. We are committed to equitable hiring practices that allow us to hire qualified staff who reflect the full diversity of the Region of Peel. We will provide reasonable accommodation (e.g. an accessible location, rescheduling of interviews that fall on Days of Significance etc.) based on any of the human rights protected grounds, during the hiring process if advised in advance. We are also committed to inclusion, anti‑oppression and anti‑racist practices while also supporting the continuous growth and development of an equitable and empowered education system at the PDSB.

Criminal Background Check

Successful candidates must provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check prior to commencing employment. Please review the requirements for the Criminal Background Check.

Land Acknowledgement

The land upon which we work, live and sustain ourselves is the ancestral and treaty lands of the Miichizaagiig Anishinaabek also known today as the Mississaugas of the Credit, the rightful caretakers and title holders of this land. We also recognize the rich pre‑contact history and relationships which include the Anishinaabek and the Onkwehonwe. Since European Contact, this land continues to be home to Indigenous and non‑Indigenous peoples. As responsible community members, we value the diversity, dignity and worth of all people. Colonialism displaced and dispossessed Indigenous peoples of their ancestral lands and continues to deny their basic human rights, dignities and freedoms. We are committed to learning true history to reconcile, make reparations and fulfill our treaty obligations to the Original Peoples and our collective responsibilities to the land, water, animals, and each other for future generations.

We appreciate the interest of all applicants, but will only be contacting candidates whose skills, experience and qualifications best meet the requirements of the position. All communication to applicants regarding this job posting, including an invitation to complete skills assessments and/or a job interview if applicable, will be made through email.
