Supply Pool - Designated Early Childhood Educator at Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. This role supports the Kindergarten program and assists the classroom teacher with Catholic education, observation, and student development in a Catholic school setting.

- Hourly Rate: $27.91/hour plus 4% vacation pay
- Location: Peel Region (Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon, Bolton, Orangeville)
- Work Schedule: 10 months/year, as required
Position Summary
The DECE is an integral member of the Catholic School team and is accountable to the Principal and/or designate. The DECE will partner with the classroom teacher and other resource and support services staff to set up, plan for, and provide Catholic Education for all students; observe, monitor and assess the development of all students; maintain a healthy physical, emotional, social and spiritual learning environment; communicate with parents; and perform duties assigned by the Principal and/or designate with respect to the Kindergarten Program, in accordance with the Education Act, Board Policies and Procedures and the Mission of the Board.
Position Responsibilities
- Create a warm, positive, faith-filled classroom environment reflective of the Board\'s Catholic virtues and conducive to children’s growth and development.
- Implement the Kindergarten Program by planning, developing, and delivering daily play and inquiry-based learning opportunities supporting holistic development (spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, physically) with attention to diverse needs and development stages in line with the Four Frames: Belonging and contributing; Self-regulation and well-being; Demonstrating literacy and mathematics behaviours; Problem solving and innovating.
- Follow the Kindergarten Program and other relevant documents from the Program Department, Ministry of Education, and Catholic Bishops.
- Provide positive social and emotional learning experiences aligned with Catholic virtues to strengthen pro-social skills.
- Collaborate with school resource staff, Board and community resources to support diverse learners, including students with IEPs.
- Ensure activities for project-based emergent curriculum and/or best practices are created, maintained, and utilized.
- Observe, monitor, record, and assess students using various documentation methods (developmental checklists, anecdotal reports, portfolios).
- Contribute to the completion of initial Observations and the Kindergarten Communication of Learning.
- Organize field trips and supervise students during field trips; participate in preparation and supervision of classroom and playground areas.
- Support children with self-care, routines, lunchtime, and nutritional activities; participate in family/educator communications regarding student assessments.
- Respond to difficult or emergent situations in accordance with Board policies and procedures; observe Health and Safety Standards.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with community service providers as directed; provide guidance to families, supply staff, students, and volunteers regarding program planning, childcare, and resources.
- Communicate sensitively with students, families, and the public; maintain confidentiality; maintain appropriate student records (e.g., health, attendance).
- Attend staff and professional development activities as required; complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education (E.C.E.)
- Registered Member, in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Catholic Pastoral Reference (dated within the last 12 months)
Other Qualifications/Additional Experience
- Minimum three years of experience as an Early Childhood Educator
- Experience planning and implementing developmentally appropriate programs
- Experience with outreach and community development programs is an asset
- Experience working in a school system is an asset
