Job Description

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, the successful candidate will:

  • Organize and perform ultrasound examinations and ultrasound-guided procedures in a team environment.
  • Maintain and document high-quality images and technologist notes during the course of duties.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of strategies aimed at improving operational efficiency and effectiveness of the ultrasound service.
  • Deliver patient-centred care with effective communication with clinical teams, patients and families.
  • Work as part of a clinical team with nurses, physicians and other health care professionals.
  • You will be required to work at all SHN hospital locations.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an established and accredited ultrasound program
  • Minimum of current 2 years of hospital experience
  • Current membership with CMRITO in good standing with MRT(DMS) credential
  • Registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
  • Maintain registry status in good standing by meeting all professional and college requirements
  • Registration and working knowledge of Ultrasound Physics & Instrumentation, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Abdomen and Vascular, Breast imaging
  • Must have venous and arterial Doppler and breast imaging experience
  • Breast Ultrasound (diagnostic and screen) experience required, including interpretation of mammogram and breast MRI; knowledge of BIRADS system and breast pathology
  • Demonstrated technical capability in various ultrasound systems (e.g., GE and Philips)
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, assess patient capabilities and limitations and make practice adjustments as necessary
  • Computer keyboarding and literacy skills
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
  • Excellent work performance, punctuality and attendance
  • Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
