Registered Nurse, CCU, ICU, Cardiac Stepdown, High Acuity - Eagle Ridge Hospital

Salary: CAD $41.42 - $59.52 per hour

Job Summary

The Monitored Care unit at Eagle Ridge is a unique 9 bed unit that serves the acute needs of the Tri-Cities. MCU monitors and supports the cardiac and medical patients that require specialized care. As a high acuity nurse, you are responsible for caring for patients needing acute interventions and cardiac monitoring. As a vital member of the code team, you respond to a variety of patients and support in patient transfers to regional sites.

Eagle Ridge Hospital is a 168-bed hospital in Port Moody, British Columbia, serving the communities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra. The hospital offers medical, surgical, and cardiac programs, as well as 24/7 emergency services with over 53,000 visits annually.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients and collects information from a variety of sources using observation, communication, data review and physical assessment. Determines nursing interventions and evaluates care outcomes.
  • Collaborates with patients and families in developing and modifying the care plan. Maintains therapeutic relationships, protecting privacy, dignity and autonomy in decision making.
  • Participates in care and discharge planning; updates care plans and collaborates with the interprofessional care team to ensure comprehensive care planning and delivery.
  • Coordinates nursing care, sets priorities, delegates tasks to support staff, and makes referrals according to established protocols.
  • Collaborates with the interprofessional care team to identify issues, adjust care plans, and respond to changes in patient condition.
  • Educates patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration and maintenance; assesses learning needs and supports self-care and discharge planning.
  • Initiates referrals to appropriate health care/community agencies in collaboration with the care team.
  • Documents assessments, nursing diagnoses, interventions, patient/family responses and outcomes according to standards and Fraser Health procedures.
  • Participates in nursing committees, care conferences and councils as assigned; engages in research and quality improvement activities.
  • Acts as a preceptor or mentor to new nursing staff and students; participates in orientation and provides feedback on patient care programs and practices.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of applicable post graduate coursework or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform initial and ongoing patient assessments and provide nursing care with appropriate interventions.
  • Strong communication skills with patients, families, the public and interprofessional care team using verbal, written and electronic means.
  • Commitment to person-centered care with empathy, cultural sensitivity and patient advocacy.
  • Ability to analyze data from multiple sources and problem-solve effectively.
  • Ability to teach patients and families about health topics and self-care.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills; ability to collaborate with the care team.
  • Ability to apply evidence-based practice and use relevant equipment and computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform duties of the position.
