Job description

The successful candidate

will be working and playing in the traditional territory of Gitxaała Nation with the opportunity to engage with local culture and traditions and participate in community events. You will bring recent and successful classroom experience teaching at the high school level. This position requires a deep commitment to indigenization, a competency-based curriculum, and innovative approaches that support multi-grade learners. Your classroom management creates a safe, positive, and respectful learning climate for all students.You use strength-based, student-centered approaches to plan engaging and educational lessons based on BC Ministry of Education standards. You will have demonstrated ability to accommodate the needs of students with a range learning styles and abilities, able to inspire and foster a sense of belonging for all learners. You will have the ability to cultivate regular, meaningful dialogue between school and home to support parental engagement in the learning process and will maintain confidentiality of students and other professional information.This position could be a great fit for you if you want to make a difference, enjoy the cycle of learning and continual improvement, and want to join a collaborative team. Desired Qualifications:Hold or be qualified for a valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching CertificateBachelor of Education (Secondary) or relevant degree in subject areasA proven ability to assess using multiple learning strategiesKnowledge of Aboriginal World View and successful experience integrating local Indigenous culture into the curriculumKnowledge and/or experience in the areas of outcomes-based instruction, assessment for learning, differentiated instruction and inclusive educationExperience integrating technology into the teaching/learning environmentWillingness to work and implement school initiatives and goalsThe ability to adjust to living in a small, isolated communityWillingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the school improvement planExceptional and creative teaching skillsThe ability to establish and maintain positive relations with students, staff, parents and the greater community.We provide:· Furnished teacherage at a nominal rental rate· Health benefits, pension fund, moving allowance and a retention incentive· A competitive salary, in line with neighboring school districtsAll employees must complete the appropriate clear criminal record check to work at the school.
