The Kindergarten Early Childhood Educator (ECE) works in a student-centred collaborative early childhood team. The role supports the implementation of learning experiences aligned with the values and principles of UCCs Strategic Directions and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) emphasizing inquiry play-based learning and the development of the whole child.

Our JK and SK students engage in hands-on meaningful learning experiences that build foundational skills spark curiosity and foster international-mindedness from the very beginning. The ECE works alongside the Kindergarten teacher to facilitate these experiences contributing insight into child development and supporting joyful responsive developmentally appropriate practice.

The ECE brings joy to their role and works in a collegial transparent creative collaborative and humble manner. They are committed to building supportive relationships with colleagues parents and students. The ECE continuously uses reflection and feedback to improve teaching practice stays current with early years research is tech savvy and is willing to contribute to the greater school community. The position has a full course support load with additional co-curricular support and duties.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Collaboration and Learning Support

• Collaborate with the Kindergarten teachers Primary Years Coordinator and Primary colleagues to support engaging developmentally appropriate student-centred and inquiry-based learning experiences;
• Collaborate with the Kindergarten teaching team to implement plans and adapt the learning environment based on childrens interests and observations;
• Prepare materials learning centres and provocations that align with the daily or weekly plan;
• Establish effective supportive and caring relationships with students and families that foster a sense of belonging;
• Facilitate and extend play-based learning through intentional questions language modelling and shared exploration to promote curiosity problem-solving and communication;
• Observe and document student learning through photos videos and notes to assess student interest and learning to support student reflection to inform next steps and to celebrate growth;
• Differentiate and scaffold approaches in response to students needs and interests;
• Collaborate with specialist teachers to deliver holistic and integrated learning experiences involving art music French physical literacy and outdoor education;
• Support the development of early literacy and numeracy through play-based learning experiences as well as small-group and one-on-one instruction;
• Respond to classroom dynamics anticipate needs and make adjustments that support classroom expectations and student learning
• Support the development of social-emotional learning and self-regulation;
• Contribute to planning by offering observations and insights about student learning needs and well-being;
• Support the appropriate use of technology in the classroom to enhance learning;
• Integrate the values of pluralism wellbeing service and community into learning experiences;
• Engage in professional learning and reflection to refine practice and stay current with early years research;
• Engage meaningfully in professional meetings educational conferences and various professional development opportunities;
• Ensure that school policies practices and standards are -curricular Coaching and Supervisory
