Job Description

This individual will be responsible for off-loading and on-loading all goods from containers using a propane SDCB forklift. The role requires operating the forklift approximately 80% of the shift, in a busy environment, ensuring quick yet safe maneuvering in tight quarters. The product is freight, which varies with each trailer, and can be very heavy and differently shaped, requiring experience working with freight. The operator will use paper shipping documents to ensure products are loaded/unloaded correctly and will transition to using complex digital shipping software in the next few months. The facility is open, but with high volume, operators are required to navigate tight corners. The role demands someone capable of moving shipments of varying sizes.

Responsibilities

• Off-load and on-load goods using a propane SDCB forklift.
• Operate the forklift safely and efficiently around tight quarters.
• Handle heavy and differently shaped freight.
• Use paper shipping documents and transition to digital shipping software.
• Navigate tight corners in a high-volume facility.
• Move shipments ranging from small to large.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 1 year experience operating a SDCB Forklift in a 3PL or LTL environment.
• Valid forklift ticket.
• Good computer skills.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly.
• Reliable transportation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2-5 years experience in LTL.
• Leadership experience.
• Experience with Truckmate software.
• Ability to work independently.
• Initiative-taking attitude.
• Comfortable with shop talk.
• Good English communication skills.

Work Environment

The work environment is fast-paced, operating 24 hours depending on truck arrivals and departures. It is very busy with incoming and outgoing trucks and drivers. Forklifts move in a safe but fast-paced manner, with products staged on the dock which has over 50 doors. The facility handles various types of products, from fridges to tires. The dock can be cold, so layering up is recommended. Handbombing is required. The culture is multicultural and fast-paced, with an independent, hit-the-ground-running team. The team size is approximately 50 operators per shift. The dress code requires steel-toed boots, which the operator can bring or use ones provided on-site. The shift runs Monday to Friday, from 3pm to 11:30pm.

The pay range for this position is $24.75 - $25.75/hr.
