Job Description

This role involves the responsibility of off-loading and on-loading all goods from containers using a propane sit-down counterbalance forklift. The forklift operator will spend approximately 80% of their shift operating the forklift, requiring the ability to work quickly yet safely in tight quarters. The operator will handle freight of varying sizes and weights, necessitating experience in working with diverse freight. Initially, paper shipping documents will be used to ensure correct loading and unloading, transitioning to a complex digital shipping software in the coming months. This is a long-term rolling contract with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities

• Operate a propane sit-down counterbalance forklift for loading and unloading goods.
• Ensure safe and efficient handling of diverse freight sizes and weights.
• Use paper shipping documents and transition to digital shipping software.
• Maintain a high level of safety while navigating tight quarters.
• Handle both small and large shipments efficiently.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 1 year experience operating a sit-down counterbalance forklift in an LTL environment.
• Valid forklift ticket.
• Good computer skills.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively.
• Reliable transportation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2-5 years experience in LTL is preferred.
• Leadership experience is a plus.
• Experience with Truckmate software is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Good English communication skills.

Work Environment

The work environment is fast-paced, with a 24-hour operation dependent on truck arrival and departure. It involves a busy setting with a constant flow of incoming and outgoing trucks and drivers. Products are staged on the dock with more than 50 doors, and the work involves handling a variety of products, from fridges to tires. The multicultural team is independent and dynamic, with approximately 50 operators per shift. The dress code requires steel-toed boots, and the shift is the third shift, from Sunday to Thursday, 11pm to 7am.
