Job Description

We are seeking a Surface Mount Assembly Operator to become an integral part of our team! You will perform assembly line tasks as well as identify areas of improvement to increase efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team to assemble entire products or components
  • Rotate through tasks for specific production processes
  • Conduct quality inspections on products and partsMaintain a clean and orderly work area

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, assembly, or other related fields
  • Knowledge of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes and equipment (pick-and-place machines, screen printers, reflow ovens, AOI/X-ray inspection).
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOM), work instructions, and soldering standards (e.g., IPC-A-610).
  • Hand soldering skills for rework and touch-up of SMT and through-hole components.
  • Understanding of component identification (resistors, capacitors, ICs, diodes, etc.) and polarity orientation.
  • Familiarity with solder paste application and stencil alignment.
  • Use of measurement tools (calipers, microscopes, magnifiers) for inspection and quality verification.
  • Knowledge of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) handling procedures.
  • Basic troubleshooting of SMT equipment and processes.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada on an ongoing basis without employer sponsorship.
  • Experience working within the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) environment is considered an asset.
  • Must be able to obtain CGP registration.

  • Knowledge of IPC standards for electronic assembly.
  • Ability to recognize soldering defects (bridges, cold solder joints, insufficient/ excess solder).
  • Understanding of quality assurance practices and continuous improvement.
  • Compliance with workplace safety, cleanliness, and 5S standards.

Soft Skills

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in handling miniature components.
  • Strong manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
  • Problem-solving ability for process or assembly issues.
  • Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures precisely.
  • Communication skills for reporting issues to supervisors or engineers.
  • Teamwork and collaboration in a production environment.

Workplace Skills

  • Time management to meet production schedules.
  • Flexibility to work shifts and adapt to changing production needs.
  • Recordkeeping and basic computer skills for logging production data.
  • Reliability and consistency in meeting quality and output standards.

Education

Completion of High School or equivalent.
