The Accessibility Directorate is a dynamic and committed team that is leading and coordinating Nova Scotia’s work toward our goal of an accessible province by 2030. We work together with Nova Scotians with disabilities, community and disability organizations, government departments, municipalities and villages, other public sector bodies, businesses, and other partners to support the cultural shift needed to implement the Accessibility Act and address disability-related issues across government.

Since the team was established in 2017, we have built relationships within government and with public sector and community partners to support efforts to improve accessibility.

About Our Opportunity

As Program Coordinator, you will support the delivery, administration, coordination and evaluation of accessibility awareness, education and capacity building programs to help organizations meet their obligations under the Accessibility Act. This position reports to the Manager of Compliance and Capacity Building.

Primary Accountabilities

• Coordinate the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of accessibility awareness and education programs, including workshops, webinars, website updates, and other activities.
• Support the planning and delivery of awareness and capacity building initiatives related to the Built Environment Accessibility Standard and other accessibility standards.
• Liaise with partners within government, and in other public sector organizations, the private sector and community organizations.
• Conduct research and analysis to support program and policy development.
• Support the development of internal and external communications.
  
  

Qualifications and Experience

As the successful candidate, you will have completed a post-secondary program in a related field within the past 3 years. In addition, you have:

• Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating programs and activities, such as workshops, webinars, toolkits, and other resource
• Experience in project management, including planning, coordinating, tracking and managing multiple activities.
• Experience conducting research and analysis, and synthesizing information.
• Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a range of partners.
• The ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision, carry out work within tight timelines, and manage competing priorities.
• Experience using the Microsoft software suite.

Assets:

• Knowledge of accessibility and disability issues, including relevant legislation, policy and programs.
• Fluency in French (oral and/or written).
• Experience using other software such as Zoom and Drupal.
• Knowledge or experience in provincial government.

Additional Information

This is a 1-year internship for candidates who have graduated from college, undergraduate or graduate studies within the last 3 years. The role is based in Halifax.

Pay Grade: PR 06

Salary Range: $2,112.87 - $2,590.90 Bi-Weekly
