Superintendent

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Superintendent to join our client, a leading Canadian general contractor that is growing their operations in Alberta and their Edmonton team. Responsibilities

• Lead all day-to-day site operations from project start through completion.
• Promote and enforce a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
• Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, trades, suppliers, and site personnel.
• Build, maintain, and update project schedules alongside the Project Manager.
• Monitor project progress to ensure milestones, budgets, quality standards, and client expectations are achieved.
• Review drawings and specifications while identifying and resolving design or constructability issues.
• Administer site instructions, change notices, purchase orders, and subcontractor activities.
• Monitor subcontractor performance with respect to safety, quality, productivity, and contractual obligations.
• Ensure sufficient manpower and resources are available to maintain project schedules.
• Complete daily reports, site documentation, safety inspections, and project records.
• Mentor, coach, and develop field staff while fostering a collaborative and accountable site culture.

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of experience in a Superintendent or senior supervisory role with a General Contractor.
• Proven experience delivering commercial and institutional construction projects valued at $30M+.
• Strong background managing all aspects of field operations on complex ICI projects.
• Experience with schools, healthcare, municipal, commercial, or other institutional developments is highly preferred.
• Excellent leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and team-building skills.
• Thorough understanding of construction methods, scheduling, contract drawings, and specifications.
• Demonstrated success managing safety, quality, scheduling, workforce coordination, and subcontractor performance.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and MS Project.
• Trade background in carpentry and/or Gold Seal Certification is considered an asset.
• P3 and Design-Build project experience is considered an asset.
