Job Title: Forklift Operator – Afternoon Shift
Job Description
This role focuses on safe and efficient operation of material handling equipment to support order picking, shipping, receiving, and inventory movement in a modern warehouse environment. You will primarily use RF scan technology along with sit-down counterbalance and reach forklifts to load and unload trailers, complete case and bulk picks, and handle some heavy lifting during the afternoon shift.
Responsibilities
- Operate sit-down counterbalance and reach forklifts to move, store, and retrieve pallets and cases throughout the warehouse.
- Use RF scan guns and RF units to accurately pick orders, scan products, and update the warehouse management system (WMS).
- Perform case picking and bulk picking, ensuring accuracy and efficiency for both full pallet and case-level orders.
- Load and unload trailers and trucks safely and efficiently, following all site procedures and safety guidelines.
- Operate power pallet jacks and dock stockers as required to move product and stage orders.
- Support shipping and receiving activities, including staging, scanning, and putting away product in designated locations.
- Follow established processes to stage products, scan items, and place them in the correct storage or shipping areas.
- Start in case picking to build product knowledge and progress into receiving and bulk operations as experience grows.
- Handle some heavy lifting as needed while maintaining safe lifting practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, reporting any hazards or equipment issues promptly.
- Collaborate with a team of warehouse staff to meet productivity, accuracy, and service goals on the afternoon shift.
- Adhere to all warehouse safety rules, equipment operating procedures, and company policies at all times.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience operating reach trucks and sit-down forklifts, with at least 1 year of reach truck experience.
- Valid forklift certification for operating sit-down and reach material handling equipment.
- Experience with power pallet jacks and sit-down forklifts in a warehouse environment.
- Hands-on experience in shipping and receiving, including loading and unloading trailers.
- Knowledge of warehouse inventory systems and warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Order picking and case picking experience using RF scan guns or RF units.
- Ability to work the afternoon shift, Monday to Friday, from 2:30 . to 11:00 .
- Comfort working in a warehouse environment with both full pallet (bulk) and case picking operations.
- Ability to perform some heavy lifting and stand, walk, and operate equipment for the duration of the shift.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when scanning, picking, staging, and putting away product.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience operating double deep reach trucks and sit-down forklifts.
- Proficiency using RF scanners for order picking and inventory transactions.
- Experience operating dock stockers and power pallet jacks.
- Alberta forklift certification or equivalent provincial certification.
- Ability to work at facilities in the southeast area and at newer warehouse buildings as needed.
- Comfort working across multiple types of forklifts, including sit-down/counterbalance, dock stocker, and power pallet equipment.
- Previous experience in a third-party logistics (3PL) or high-volume distribution environment.
Work Environment
The role is based in a modern, super clean warehouse facility where approximately 70% of the operation focuses on bulk full pallets and 30% on case picking. Associates typically start in case picking to learn the product range and processes, then progress into receiving and bulk work. The team uses RF scan guns and RF units for order picking, staging, and put-away, and relies on a variety of material handling equipment including sit-down forklifts, reach trucks, dock stockers, and single power pallets. The shift is an afternoon schedule, Monday to Friday, from 2:30 . to 11:00 ., working as part of a team of around ten warehouse staff per shift. The site operates in an area without direct public transit service, so reliable transportation is required. The environment is structured yet easygoing, with clear processes, strong safety practices, and opportunities to rotate through different tasks such as case picking, staging, loading and unloading, and bulk operations
