Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 105,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. Position Reports To: Innovation Business Analyst
Position Overview
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a student to join our New Afton team for an 8 or 12-month work term commencing in September 2026. This position will provide support to the Innovation & Technology Team in delivering strategic initiatives across automation, telemetry, asset tracking, analytics, and integrated operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Coordination Assist in planning, scheduling, and tracking innovation projects Provide in-field support for underground deployment of innovation projects Support implementation efforts by coordinating with cross-functional teams and various project stakeholders Maintain project documentation including timelines, deliverables, and progress report
- Data & Reporting Build dashboards and reports using Power BI to support decision-making Develop and maintain process flow diagrams, user guides, and technical documentation
- Innovation Support Contribute to evaluation of new technologies and process improvements Participate in meetings and workshops to capture insights and follow up on action items Help prepare presentations and communication materials to showcase innovation outcomes
Qualifications
- Enrolled in third- or fourth-year University program in Computer Science or Software Engineering;
- Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration;
- Show initiative and problem-solving abilities in addressing operational challenges;
- Be passionate about emerging technologies and continuous improvement;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint);
- Be eager to learn tools such as Power BI, Deswik.Ops, Sandvik AutoMine Fleet, Sandvik Optimine, and ORB software;
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
- Completion of pre-placement functional screen
- Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
Compensation
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $52,000 to $64,480. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
