SCADA / Protection & Control Engineer

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a SCADA / Protection & Control Engineer for a hybrid opportunity based in Burnaby, BC, supporting one of British Columbia’s largest utility and clean energy organizations. This role is ideal for an experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in SCADA systems, substation integration, and power system monitoring and control within utility or infrastructure environments.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary SCADA Design Team supporting capital projects involving remote monitoring, control systems integration, substation automation, and power system communications. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex transmission, generation, and distribution projects while collaborating closely with engineering teams, contractors, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the design, development, testing, and integration of SCADA and remote monitoring/control systems
• Deliver engineering support for transmission substations, generating stations, and distribution facilities
• Participate in multidisciplinary capital projects involving power system automation and communications
• Review engineering designs and ensure compliance with utility standards and procedures
• Provide technical leadership, guidance, and engineering support to project teams and stakeholders
• Support maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency response activities as required
• Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and external service providers throughout project delivery

Must Haves

• Degree in Electrical Engineering from an institution accredited by EGBC
• P.Eng designation with valid Permit to Practice (P2P)
• Minimum 8+ years of relevant engineering experience
• Ability to work onsite in Burnaby on a hybrid schedule
• Strong understanding of SCADA systems, remote monitoring, and control integration
• Experience working within utility, power systems, or infrastructure environments
• Familiarity with CAD systems, engineering design software, and MS Office applications

Nice to Haves

• Experience with DNP3, MODBUS, networking protocols, and cybersecurity
• Experience delivering machine-to-machine (M2M) networking applications
• Experience programming GE Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)
• Knowledge of NERC standards
• Previous utility industry experience
