Job Details
The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Policing Services team as an Emergency Communications Operator. Reporting to the Senior Emergency Communications Operator, this position will be responsible for being the first point of contact for all incoming calls to the St. Albert RCMP Detachment, including all Municipal Enforcement and 911 Emergency calls.
Responsibilities
- Gathering and disseminating accurate information is a key link between the public and the police services.
- Complaint taking, dispatching, answering emergency calls and providing assistance to the general public at the front counter and over the telephone.
- Utilizing detachment radio equipment, performing CPIC entries, preparing court documents and creating/dispatching Municipal Enforcement files.
- Maintenance and retrieval tasks for various RCMP computer systems.
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12 together with prior policing or dispatching experience and strong computer skills are necessary.
- At least 1 year of call-taking/dispatching experience is preferred.
- Certification from an Emergency Communications Program is considered an asset.
- Experience with RCMP computer programs and familiarity with the RCMP environment is a definite asset.
- The ability to deal with people in a polite, courteous and informed manner is essential. The ability to stay calm in a variety of high stress, demanding situations is required, as well as the ability to prioritize and multitask.
Hours of Work
- 12-hour shifts: 7:00 am –7:00 pm or 7:00 pm –7:00 am. Shifts may be altered to meet operational needs.
- The regular hourly work schedule is based on eighteen hundred and seventy-two (1872) hours annually.
Compensation
- The salary ranges from $66,755.52 – $81,188.64 per year ($35.66 – $43.37 per hour), including a comprehensive benefits package with a flexible spending account, Pension Plan, and accrued paid vacation starting at 3 weeks per year.

Conditions of Employment
- This position is represented by the Union CUPE 5141, and the terms and conditions of employment are governed by the collective agreement between the Union and The City of St. Albert.

- The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.
- The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a RCMP issued Security Clearance.
