WHAT IT TAKES
You will be assisting with a faculty-led research project exploring the ways in which students respond to an alternative grading and assessment approach. The role will include study recruitment activities under supervision, interviewing social work student participants, analyzing data, report-writing, and contributing to a jointly authored research publication

    Responsibilities:
    Acting ethically, in accordance with the study proposal approved by Douglas College and provide support by,
    • Giving in-class presentations to inform social work students about the study
    • Interviewing student participants about their history and experiences
    • Recording and transcribing student participant interviews
    • Supporting student participants to complete the research survey
    • Responding to student inquiries and arranging student interviews and incentives
    • Analyzing qualitative data
    • Analyzing quantitative data, if appropriate
    • Drafting reports presenting the study's methods and findings
    • Contributing to a jointly authored publication
    • Collaborating with other research assistants and the faculty researcher
    • Attending online or in-person meetings with the research team
    • Meeting study deadlines
    To be Successful in this Role You Will Need:

    • Interviewing and/or counselling skills, including the ability to engage with sensitive topics
    • An understanding of qualitative data analysis processes
    • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
    • Strong problem solving and time management skills
    • Proficiency with MS Office 365 (Word and Excel)
    • Research methods courses in applied community studies, social sciences or health sciences an asset
    • Knowledge of NVIVO and SPSS an asset
    NOTE : Students enrolled in the SOWK BSW Program are not eligible to apply for this role.

Domestic students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:

1. The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term; OR

2. The domestic student must have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term; OR

3. The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term; OR

4. The domestic student must have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term

International students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:

1. The international student is enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College, throughout the academic year; OR

2. The international student, who is not a Douglas College student, but is an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C., has a valid Study Permit that has the notation - "May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria." Proof of enrollment in full-time studies from the other post-secondary institution is required.

An original copy of a Social Insurance Number ( SIN ) and an original Study Permit are required by law before commencing work at Douglas College.


Qualified Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference over students of other qualifying institutions.

Additional Information
The position is located at the Coquitlam campus. Hours of work: up to a maximum of 20 hours/week. The work terms for this position are:

1. Fall 2025: September 2, 2025 - December 15, 2025

2. Winter 2026: January 5, 2026 - April 24, 2026

3. Summer 2026: May 4, 2026 - August 16, 2026

This position will be located in the Social Work Department.
