Hays Construction has partnered with a leading civil infrastructure contractor with a long-standing presence in Eastern Ontario. With a strong reputation for delivering utility, telmunications, hydro, and underground infrastructure projects, our client is experiencing continued growth and is seeking an experienced Civil Estimator to join their team in Ottawa.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from underground utilities and telmunications infrastructure to hydro and municipal servicing projects throughout Ottawa, Kingston, and the surrounding region.
Your new role
As Civil Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate andpetitive cost estimates for a variety of civil and utility infrastructure projects. Working closely with senior leadership, operations teams, suppliers, and subcontractors, you will play a key role in securing new work and supporting the successful delivery of projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing tender documents, specifications, and construction drawings
- Performing quantity take-offs and preparing detailed cost estimates
- Obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Preparingpetitive bid submissions and tender packages
- Assessing project risks, construction methodologies, and production rates
- Supporting project handovers to operations teams following award
- Assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and change order pricing
- Participating in site visits, pre-bid meetings, and client discussions
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, you will possess:
- 5+ years of estimating experience within civil construction, utilities, underground infrastructure, telmunications, hydro, or related sectors
- A Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
- Strong understanding of heavy civil construction methods and production rates
- Experience preparing estimates for utility, municipal, or infrastructure projects
- Excellent analytical, organizational, andmunication skills
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Excel
- The ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
