Job description
Position Summary
Northern Health is looking for an experienced, highly efficient, and self-directed Assistant to support the Planning & Administration – UHNBC Medical Affairs department.

The Assistant, Planning & Administration – UHNBC Medical Affairs is responsible for planning and providing administrative support to the UHNBC Medical Staff Department Heads, Department members, and related committees and for serving as a liaison between Medical Staff, Medical Affairs, Hospital Administration, the Northern Medical Program and other department leads in order to integrate and implement departmental health service delivery plans within a multi-disciplinary and regional teaching hospital context, and to identify issues of importance to medical staff and to involve Medical Affairs in the effective resolution of issues, projects and activities. The incumbent utilizes basic project management skills to bring Departmental projects to completion or to present issues to Medical Affairs in a project format for follow up and resolution.

Starting salary will be approximately from $58,494 to $73,117 and will be based on education, training, experience, and salaries of similar positions.

Qualfications
•Grade 12 plus successful completion of an administrative or business diploma/certificate;
• A minimum of five (5) years related experience in a senior administrative position, preferably including experience working with Medical Staff/Affairs, or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience;
• Experience in minute taking at an executive level.
• Project Management education and experience is an asset.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to ascertain and interpret guidelines and policy from other departments for the efficient implementation of policies and procedures.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Ability to broker effective communication between groups who may have disparate views.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to employ and foster collaborative working relationships within medical, administrative and multidisciplinary team environments.
• Ability to consistently exemplify strong leadership within a team environment including an ability to deal effectively with conflict and a strong ability to influence and persuade others.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, ambiguous and rapidly changing work environment.
• Ability to anticipate work requirements and organize workload to meet competing demands.
• Ability to work independently given established priorities.
• Advanced word processing skills and the ability to type 50 .
• Ability to transcribe from Dictaphone.
• Knowledge of medical terminology an asset.
• Computer literate with proficient knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Demonstrated ability to exhibit tact, discretion and confidentiality when dealing with medical staff and patient/client information.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with staff, Medical Staff and the public in an effective and professional manner.
