Public Educator, Community Programs Direct Service - (OPSEU) Full-Time, Permanent (Benefitted) London, Ontario; Multisite accountability within the Thames Valley Region (London, Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford & South Huron Zones) This posting is the result of an upcoming vacancy - Application Deadline: May 11, 2026 - We’re working to ignite hope and foster change for people in our community experiencing mental health or addictions challenges.

We believe that raising awareness is vital to this endeavor.

As a Public Educator, you'll work to build greater understanding and to reduce the stigma around mental health and addictions through education.

You'll get to share information, resources and stories and open the conversation with the community businesses, family members, clients with lived experience and the broader public.

You'll also work to build partnerships and increase the visibility of mental health and addictions issues in our community through public speaking and leading or organization workshops, events and trainings.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING: What you'll be making - Starting rate for this role is $27.14 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with a wage differential, based on regulation ( $30.01 per hour for Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated): Successful candidates who are registered with one of the designated professional colleges (e.g.

OCSWSSW, CNO, COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO) will receive the wage differential for regulation Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8 ($34.41 per hour for non-regulated, and $37.26 per hour for regulated); for internal applicants, grid level placement will occur as per the Collective Agreement When you'll work - 70 hours biweekly; Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm and flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends Your pension plan –Immediately enrolled in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) What your benefits will be – After a 90-day waiting period, will be enrolled in extended healthcare benefits HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Public Education: Develop and facilitate educational and skill enhancement training workshops/programs Research and monitor new mental health and addictions education tools, resources, training and key stats/indicators about mental health, mental illness and addiction on a regular basis Develop an inventory of PowerPoint presentations and facilitate educational and skill enhancement training workshops Act as a resource to other staff members who are looking to support outside agencies or community partners with education resources Liaise with community partners for future training needs Work with Program Support staff to build a viable training schedule Obtain feedback from presentations and use feedback to develop new programs and workshops based on community needs and developments in the mental health promotion, mental wellness, addiction support areas, and other related fields Participate in planning and facilitating a variety of mental health and addiction awareness activities such as awareness weeks, or events Events and Community Development: Participate in health fairs, awareness walks, events, etc.

as required Maintain positive relationships with businesses and community partners Work with Program Support to organize staff speakers, info displays and events when requested Support individuals of lived experience, family members and supporters of mental health or addictions support to engage with the organization in the promotion of positive mental health and wellness Work collaboratively within the organizations programs to support education and awareness campaigns as required (i.e.

Communications, Volunteer Coordinator) Administrative Responsibilities: Coordinate and maintain supplies, room bookings and materials needed for scheduled presentations Determine costs and manage payment options for all fee for service offerings Coach employees who are participating as speakers Reply to information requests Provide occasional support for the internal sharing of resources (posters, forms, pledge sheets, etc.) for community events Provide regular updates to content and calendar items on the branch website Evaluate and report on Public Education activities as required for the agency and for specific funders Other duties, as required WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY: Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months.

Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

  • We require the following qualifications: Post-secondary university degree or college diploma, preferably in Adult Education, social services or a related field Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) Valid Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle with adequate insurance to carry out job duties Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly We prefer the following qualifications: Certification as a trainer in at least one of the following is preferred: ASIST., Mental Health First Aid, Living Life to the Fullest, Mental Health Works or similar certified programs Training in CPI, First Aid & CPR Experience working with the public, including public speaking and presentations to a variety of groups Experience and skills in developing dynamic, interactive presentations to groups of varying sizes In-depth understanding of mental health, addictions, trauma and social issues such as poverty, healthy equity, housing and homelessness Familiarity with a recovery-based model of care, and an awareness of the needs of diverse communities Extensive knowledge of community resources, service and support programs, as well as a knowledge of the barriers individuals face in accessing supports Working knowledge of a variety of treatment, intervention, and support strategies Bilingual both official languages, preferred; préférence sera accordée aux candidats qui sont compétents dans les deux langues officielles du Canada INTERNAL APPLICANTS: To be considered as an internal applicant, current staff members are reminded to apply using their @cmhatv.ca or @slwar.ca email address.
