This role involves setting up and operating CNC and manual machining equipment to produce high-quality custom and production steel fabricated parts. You will interpret technical drawings, plan machining operations, and use your knowledge of shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining methods to ensure parts meet precise specifications. The position requires hands-on work with mills, lathes, and boring mills, including Heidenhain and Fanuc controllers, in a swing-shift environment.

Responsibilities

• Study drawings and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and the sequence of machining operations using knowledge of shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining procedures.
• Plan and execute machining operations to produce both custom and production steel fabricated parts to required specifications.
• Set up and operate CNC and manual equipment, including mills, lathes, boring mills, and related machinery.
• Verify conformance of machined parts to specifications using measuring instruments such as scales, calipers, micrometers, and fixed gauges.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, including features defined using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Recognize and apply the functions of specific controller capabilities and program parameters to load, evaluate, and run CNC programs.
• Input additions, deletions, and changes to machining programs as instructed by the CAM department.
• Decide and ensure that assigned machining functions can be completed on specific machines based on capacity, capability, and tooling.
• Use cranes, slings, and hoists safely to move and position materials and components for machining.
• Collaborate with the CAM department, supervisors, and peers to resolve machining issues and optimize processes.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all safety procedures related to machining and material handling.
• Inspect parts during and after machining, identify non-conformances, and take corrective actions as required.
• Document work as needed, including recording measurements, program changes, and job details.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 1 year of experience in machining.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, including the ability to work from detailed drawings.
• Hands-on experience operating mills, lathes, boring mills, and CNC machines.
• Experience using cranes, slings, and hoists for material handling.
• Experience with Heidenhain controllers on boring mill machines.
• Ability to work from blueprints with features defined using GD&T.
• Ability to load, run, and make basic edits to CNC programs.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of shop mathematics and metal properties relevant to machining.
• Ability to verify part conformance using measuring instruments such as scales, calipers, micrometers, and fixed gauges.
• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is an asset.
• Experience manually programming Heidenhain controllers is an asset.
• Knowledge of Fanuc controllers is an asset.
• Experience working with CNC mills and CNC machines in a production or job-shop environment.
• Comfort working with cutting-edge machining and manufacturing technologies.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

Work Environment

This role is based in a machining and manufacturing facility that operates on a days/afternoons swing shift. The day shift typically runs Monday to Friday from 7:00 . to 3:30 ., and the afternoon shift typically runs Monday to Thursday (10 hours) from 3:30 . to 2:00 . You will work in a shop environment that uses mills, lathes, boring mills, cranes, slings, hoists, and CNC equipment equipped with Heidenhain and Fanuc controllers. The facility focuses on machining both custom and production steel fabricated parts, with an emphasis on precision, safety, and teamwork. Standard industrial shop attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required to ensure a safe and professional work setting.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $34.00/hr.
