Job description

Job Description

This position requires the incumbent to relocate permanently to QC City.

Perform surveys on board sea going vessels, , full inspection of ships’ hold for suitability with respect to cleanliness, Draft Surveys, On/Off-hire surveys, Bunker Surveys, Damage Inspections.

  • Ship’s draft survey
  • Barge draft survey
  • Ship’s on/off hire survey
  • Pre-purchase survey on ocean going vessels
  • Bunker surveys
  • Ships hold cleaning consultant
  • Inspection of any ship’s compartments
  • Supervision of load and stowing of cargos
  • Loading and lashing of deck cargos
  • Grain stability survey
  • Dead freight survey
  • Draft limitation calculations
  • Stevedore damage survey
  • Dock damage survey
  • Vessel damage survey
  • P & I survey
  • Owner’s, Shipper’s Charter’s representative at loading/discharge
  • Inspection of refrigerated compartments
  • General cargo damage survey
  • Marine consultant for Agents, Shippers or Terminals
  • Any other related duties as required as assigned by the Company

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of 5 -10 years’ experience in conducting Marine surveys
  • A minimum of post-secondary education (College diploma or University degree)
  • Must possess Canadian Foreign Going Master’s Certificate

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Capable of operating without being under close supervision
  • Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Extended hours and shift work are required.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
  • Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
