Job Description

The Yard Forklift Operator works full time in a busy outdoor distribution yard, safely operating a 10,000–15,000 lb rough terrain sit-down counterbalance forklift to load and unload trailers and flatbed trucks. This role focuses on efficient material handling, accurate documentation, and professional interaction with drivers to keep shipping and receiving operations running smoothly throughout the contract period from June to September 2026.

Responsibilities

• Operate a 10,000–15,000 lb rough terrain sit-down counterbalance forklift safely and efficiently in an outdoor yard environment.
• Load and unload trailers and flatbed trucks with a variety of materials, including large or awkwardly shaped items.
• Handle incoming and outgoing shipments, supporting shipping and receiving activities in the distribution yard.
• Verify and understand Bills of Lading (BOLs) to ensure accurate loading, unloading, and documentation of materials.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with truck drivers during check-in, loading, unloading, and departure.
• Perform general labor and material handling tasks as needed to support production and yard operations.
• Assist with order picking and staging materials for outbound shipments.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating equipment and moving materials.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area in the outdoor yard.
• Report any equipment issues, safety concerns, or shipment discrepancies to the appropriate personnel promptly.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience operating a 10,000–15,000 lb rough terrain forklift in a yard or similar environment.
• Valid 3rd party certification for sit-down counterbalance forklift operation.
• Ability to safely load and unload trailers and flatbed trucks using a yard forklift.
• Strong understanding of Bills of Lading (BOLs) and related shipping documentation.
• Experience working in shipping and receiving or distribution yard operations.
• Capability to work outdoors full time in varying weather conditions.
• Solid material handling skills, including unloading, order picking, and general labor tasks.
• Ability to interact professionally with drivers and team members.
• Attention to detail to ensure accurate handling and documentation of materials.
• Commitment to following safety procedures and safe equipment operation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Production experience is an asset and will be considered a strong advantage.
• Experience handling awkward or irregularly shaped materials is a bonus.
• Experience in general labor, yard work, or warehouse environments is beneficial.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced setting.

Work Environment

The role follows a consistent day shift schedule, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 . to 4:30 . You should be prepared to work in varying weather conditions and in a physically active environment that supports a large, busy production operation.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
