Summary of responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager Inpatient Mental Health Services successful candidate will work in all areas of acute care. An energetic and enthusiastic interprofessional team member, your commitment to meeting the social work needs of newborn babies, pediatric and adult patients is clearly evident. Included amongst the comprehensive services your role provides, is leadership and support for assessing and addressing child protection matters primarily in the ED and with the WCH program, working closely with CAS as required. Key roles with the adult population are psychosocial assessments, support and direction for financial matters, counselling and matters related to Power of Attorney and Substitute Decision Making. Other duties include collaborating with Addiction Services and other Mental Health Programs to ensure safe transitioning of the patient after discharge from hospital.
Requirements of the job
• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work with at least 3 years recent acute care and/or geriatric experience
• RSW designation from the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers is a requirement for the position
• Training and experience in a range of clinical methodologies for the adult population
• Knowledge and recent experience in child protection
• Strong knowledge of Consent and Capacity, Power of Attorney and Substitute Decision Making
• Strong assessment skills
• Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with the interdisciplinary team, as well as community partners
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
• Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral in French – and testing completed)
Assets:
• Certification in Gentle Persuasive Approach or PIECES Training
• Geriatric related courses
