Job description
Position Summary
The Opportunity
Northern Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join the Emergency Department team at Lakes District Hospital in Burns Lake. This dynamic role involves providing emergency care to patients of all ages in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The NP will manage CTAS 4 and 5 cases independently, assist with CTAS 1 and 2 cases, and occasionally manage CTAS 3 cases. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with physicians and emergency nurses, supported by telemedicine tools and flexible scheduling. Advanced certifications required: ACLS, PALS, ATLS, and CASTED.

Key Responsibilities
•Independently assess and manage CTAS 4 and 5 patients.
• Occasionally manage CTAS 3 cases and assist with CTAS 1 and 2 cases.
• Collaborate with physicians and emergency department nurses to deliver high-quality emergency care.
• Utilize PowerChart or paper-based documentation systems.
• Engage with Teladoc (virtual) services to support emergency care delivery.
• Contribute to a team-based approach to emergency medicine.

The Lakes District Hospital and Health Centre is a modern, LEED Gold-certified facility that opened in 2015. It serves Burns Lake and surrounding communities with:
• 16 beds for acute and emergency care
• Diagnostic imaging, laboratory, and pharmacy services
• Dedicated mental health and addictions support
• A design that reflects local culture and sustainability, with extensive use of wood
• The hospital fosters a collaborative, client-focused approach to care and is a key healthcare hub in the region.

Salary Range
• New Graduate NP - $145,739
• 1 Year Experience - $153,026
• 2 Years Experience - $160,313

Qualfications
Education and Experience
- Completion of BCCNM approved Master’s degree level nurse practitioner program.
- Eligible for registration as a Nurse Practitioner with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with patients/clients/residents and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care and prognosis.
- Ability to collaborate, consult with and formally refer patients/clients/residents to physicians and other health professionals when appropriate.
- Ability to critically assess and evaluate health research literature to determine best practices; ability to introduce education and evidence-based research.
- Ability to assess and recognize population health trends; ability to plan and implement strategies for population-based prevention and health promotion.
- Ability to implement and evaluate planned change.
- Ability to supervise others and evaluate the care they deliver.
- Ability to lead a team and work within a team.
- Ability to self-direct, interact, and adapt effectively with other professionals in complex, dynamic situations.
- Ability to transfer knowledge, teach, coach and mentor others.
- Ability to identify and respond appropriately to legal and ethical issues that may arise in patient/resident/client care.
