Job Posting 26-130 100% Permanent – Health and Safety Coordinator Location: Catholic Education Center, 255 Speedvale Ave. W. Guelph, Ontario (and working in schools in the district) Start Date: As Soon As Possible Schedule: 34.5 hours per week 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Thursday and 8:30am-4:00pm Friday Non-Affiliated Grade 5: Step 1 $76,263 - Step 5 $95,328 Wellington Catholic District School Board is committed to equity in employment. The Wellington Catholic District School Board invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Health and Safety Coordinator. Reporting to the Executive Superintendent, the Health & Safety Coordinator will be responsible for the development, implementation and administration of the Board’s Health & Safety programs across all sites. The Health & Safety Coordinator will ensure that the Board complies with all applicable legislation, guidelines and standards regarding Occupational Health and Safety and Workplace Safety & Insurance with the objective of ensuring that all reasonable measures are taken to protect the health and safety of all staff, students and the general public. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: · Maintain, develop and update Board policies, procedures, programs and best management practices necessary for compliance with the Occupation Health and Safety Act, associated regulations and other legislation applicable to the education sector · Administer the Board’s Health & Safety policies, procedures and programs in co-operation with members of the Board’s administration and staff · Provide timely and accurate information regarding health and safety issues, policies and best practices · Liaise and act as a resource to Board employees, Principals, Supervisors, and regulatory agencies (e.g. Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Environment, Public Health, Fire and Police Departments), etc. · Act as technical advisor to the Board’s Joint Health & Safety Committee and assist with the co-ordination of meetings, provision of background material, co-ordination of training for committee members and the co-ordination of responses to concerns · Develop, coordinate and deliver employee training programs as required by legislation, Board policy and training on specialized health and safety and WSIB topics (e.g. asbestos, first aid, CPR, WHMIS, inspections, ergonomics, etc.) · Develop safe work procedures/practices for specific job functions · Identify unsafe work conditions, practices and procedures and develop response measures to remediate the issues · Develop and co-ordinate inspections of all facilities and equipment for compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and guidelines · Conduct/Coordinate tests and compile safety data on work environment to identify and address potential hazards · Identify, develop, implement and monitor procedures to ensure emergency plans are in place to manage internal and external emergencies of a localized and/or system-wide nature, including coordinating emergency preparedness training and site/school fire safety plans · As lead, respond to and provide consultation and support for incidents/accidents, critical injury investigations, work refusals, work stoppages and investigation of unsafe working conditions · Administer procedures for evaluating and monitoring Workplace Safety & Insurance claims. Collect statistics regarding the Board’s accident/WSIB records to recognize trends and suggest appropriate management actions · Support and collaborate with Wellness and Abilities Coordinator to manage WSIB claims and reduce accident frequency and severity levels by improving health and safety practices and claims management · Collaborate with members of the Facilities Team, Human Resources Team, Mental Health and Resiliency Committee and other departments within the Board to promote and maintain a psychologically healthy and safe workplace · Carry out other duties as assigned by supervisor REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: · Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or diploma/certificate in Occupational Health and Safety with related field experience · Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or working towards this designation · Minimum five years of experience in health and safety, preferably within education sector; experience in a unionized environment preferred · Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation including a thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and other pertinent legislation relating to safety, e.g., EPA, Safe Drinking Water Act, Fire Code, AODA, etc. · Strong research, analytical, problem-solving, strategic thinking and communication skills · Proven experience building collaborative working relationships and providing exemplary service to a diverse group of internal and external teams, departments, and individuals · Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle required Interested and qualified applicants are invited to apply.
