Job description

Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values, and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We are looking for an Electrical Engineering Leader to join our Toronto office. You would be joining our established team delivering complex and large-scale projects across a range of sectors, with a particular focus on healthcare facilities, including hospitals, ambulatory care centers, and specialized medical environments, as well as Rail, Data Centers, Higher Education, and Laboratories. This leadership role will be instrumental in expanding our healthcare portfolio, strengthening relationships with healthcare clients and stakeholders, and driving growth across both existing and emerging markets through strategic business development and technical excellence.

This job posting represents an active vacancy within our organization and is open for immediate recruitment.

The opportunity

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for complex electrical engineering projects, ensuring design excellence, innovation, quality, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Act as Project Manager or Project Director on major multidisciplinary projects, overseeing scope, schedule, budget, resources, risk management, and overall project performance.
  • Lead the development and execution of business development strategies to secure new projects, expand existing client relationships, and diversify services across key sectors including Healthcare, Rail, Data Centers, Higher Education, Laboratories, and Commercial Developments.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, industry partners, contractors, architects, and key stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor throughout project lifecycles.
  • Lead project pursuits, including client engagement, proposal development, fee negotiations, project planning, and interview presentations.
  • Guide electrical engineering teams in the delivery of power distribution systems, emergency power systems, lighting, controls, grounding, communications, and other building systems for complex facilities.
  • Collaborate with other discipline leaders to identify opportunities for integrated design solutions and enhanced client value.
  • Support recruitment, workforce planning, and succession planning initiatives to build and sustain a high-performing electrical engineering team.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance development for current and future team members, fostering technical excellence, leadership growth, and professional development.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, sustainability initiatives, and market opportunities to support strategic growth and innovation.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Electrical Engineering business strategy, including revenue growth, resource planning, and operational performance.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

  • Atleast 15 years’ experience designing electrical systems for a range of industrial, commercial, educational, healthcare, laboratories, and/or transit project experience
  • P.Eng is required
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary projects as a project manager or director
  • Experience leading and developing teams
  • Established client network in the Canada region
  • Experience with developing proposals and attending pitch meetings with clients to secure projects
