Your passion for ensuring a safe work environment will contribute directly to the well-being of all team members across our projects.

District Overview

Our extensive experience ranges from carbon-free small modular reactors to supporting Department of Energy missions in science, environmental stewardship, and nuclear security. We proudly serve the power utility, renewable energy, industrial, and infrastructure markets, combining expertise to drive innovative, safe, and sustainable solutions.

Location

This position is located at our active project site in Darlington, Ontario. Candidates must be flexible and willing to work various shifts, including nights, days, and weekends, to meet project demands. Embracing a work schedule that supports continuous safety oversight is essential to this role's success.

Responsibilities

As a Safety Coordinator, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the implementation and active participation in environmental health and safety programs at the project level, promoting a proactive safety-first culture.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to occupational illnesses and accidents, and recommending preventative measures to reduce workplace hazards.
  • Conducting thorough and regular inspections of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify risks, ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards.
  • Vigilantly monitoring site personnel for unsafe actions, providing coaching and corrective feedback to uphold safety best practices.
  • Creating comprehensive environmental health and safety training materials, including manuals, brochures, and multimedia presentations tailored to project needs.
  • Administering safety training databases to accurately track and report all training activities, whether conducted internally or through external consultants.
  • Interpreting and communicating safety regulations clearly to all team members, ensuring understanding and compliance.
  • Organizing and delivering safety training programs aligned with client and regulatory requirements, covering topics such as new hire orientation, fall protection, confined space entry, lockout/tagout procedures, and respiratory protection.
  • Serving as the liaison for Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or provincial/federal safety officials during site inspections or audits.

Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate who meets the following qualifications:

  • A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or closely related discipline is preferred; however, substantial relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Proven track record of effectively managing safety programs on complex construction or industrial projects, demonstrating strong leadership in fostering safe work environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and hazard recognition techniques, alongside adeptness in record keeping and injury management protocols.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel, to support documentation and reporting.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management capabilities, enabling efficient prioritization in a dynamic work setting.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey safety policies and procedures across diverse teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills to identify discrepancies and potential safety risks proactively.
  • A robust work ethic, demonstrating commitment to achieving safety objectives and willingness to undertake responsibilities necessary to ensure a safe workplace.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Capability to engage professionally with all organizational levels, managing workloads and complex scenarios with tact and efficiency.
  • Physical ability to access all areas of a construction site under varying climatic and environmental conditions, including regular sitting, standing, walking, listening, and verbal communication.
  • Willingness to relocate and remain flexible to meet the demands of different work locations.
Other Requirements:
  • Regular, reliable attendance
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
