We are seeking a technical, people-focused Engineering Manager to lead the teams responsible for the Group Benefits Member Web application, the primary digital gateway for our customers access and management of their benefits.
In this role, you will guide the development and enhancement of both React and Node.js applications as well as existing .NET services.
You will enable the team to navigate a fast-paced environment with a high impact product roadmap while keeping the platform stable, protected, efficient, and continuously improving.
With previous software development experience, you will build a strong and cohesive engineering team.
As a leader, you will bring clarity and steadiness in the face of shifting priorities and strengthen team results with meaningful outcomes without sacrificing quality or sustainability.
You will also play a key role in building a culture that embraces modern engineering methods. You will support the careful use of AI to improve efficiency, reduce manual work, and empower engineers to do their best work.
Position Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management
Lead, mentor, and support a team of software engineers working on both modern and legacy applications.
Create an inclusive environment that supports hybrid, remote, and offshore engineers.
Identify skill gaps and provide mentorship, training, and development opportunities.
Provide leadership during on-call rotations and serve as a point of contact for critical issues.
Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Design and Development Oversight
Ensure alignment to engineering guidelines, coding standards, and design patterns.
Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from planning and design through deployment and maintenance.
Review code and provide clear, constructive feedback.
Support and perform regular security audits and collaborate with security teams to address vulnerabilities.
Project Management
Facilitate agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives.
Prioritize work based on impact, business value, and organizational goals.
Allocate resources effectively and ensure team workload remains balanced.
Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
Incident Management
Lead the incident management process, including triage, prioritization, and resolution.
Communicate clearly with partners throughout incident resolution.
Oversee root-cause analysis for major incidents and drive preventative actions.
Technical Guidance
Ensure nonfunctional requirements are met and secure necessary architectural and compliance approvals.
Support disaster recovery planning and execution.
Enhance observability and monitoring to enable proactive insights.
Lead performance tuning efforts through analysis of metrics, logs, and system behavior.
Champion a Modern, AI-Enabled Engineering Culture
Encourage thoughtful use of AI tools to enhance development speed, efficiency, and quality.
Promote continuous learning to help engineers confidently adopt AI-assisted workflows and engineering practices.
Required Qualifications:
Experience leading and managing engineering teams.
Proven experience building modern, business-critical web applications.
Strong understanding of security principles.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
A track record of delivering applications from concept to production.
Experience working in agile development environments.
Interest in or experience with incorporating AI into engineering workflows.

$113,000.00 CAD - $163,000.00 CADEmployees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
