Job description

Venor is proud to partner with GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc. (GTI) in their search for a Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead to join their team.

GTI is a leader in marine and sonar technology, known for developing cutting-edge solutions that support defense, aerospace, and commercial applications. With a strong commitment to innovation and engineering excellence, GTI continues to push the boundaries of technological advancements in the industry. As part of this dynamic organization, the Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead will play a critical role in shaping the future of marine and sonar products.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with multidisciplinary teams on high-impact projects, leading the mechanical engineering efforts, and be a key player in product innovation. The successful candidate will leverage their technical expertise, leadership skills, and industry knowledge to develop new technologies and systems that drive progress while collaborating in a goal-driven environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design and develop GTI’s marine and sonar products, systems, and processes, ensuring all specifications meet project requirements.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, providing technical guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and drive continuous improvement.
  • Participate in formal engineering design reviews, providing expert input and technical guidance.
  • Identify and analyze technical challenges, developing innovative solutions to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct tests and simulations to validate designs against performance, safety, and quality standards.
  • Manage tasks to ensure projects remain within scope, timeline, and budget constraints.
  • Anticipate, identify, mitigate, and report technical risks and roadblocks to technical leads and management.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and project management to achieve project goals.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of designs, tests, and modifications for compliance and verification.
  • Manage, compile, and present verification evidence for customer acceptance events.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and current industry trends to drive continuous innovation.
  • Contribute to occupational health and safety initiatives, performance reviews and training, and contribute to GTI’s Quality Management System.

About You

The ideal candidate holds a post-secondary degree in Engineering and brings over 10 years of hands-on experience, preferably within the defense, marine, or aerospace industries. A Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation is required. The candidate must demonstrate strong proficiency in reading, interpreting, and producing technical drawings and specifications, with expertise in CAD software—ideally SolidWorks. A strong background in structural design, materials selection, manufacturing processes, corrosion protection, coatings, and powertrain design is highly valued. Proven experience in leading the development of new systems as well as enhancing existing systems is essential.

We are seeking a strong technical leader with the ability to provide engineering oversight and mentorship to the mechanical team while cultivating an environment where innovation is encouraged at all levels. The successful candidate is a highly collaborative, results-driven professional with exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities. They are detail-oriented, organized, and adept at managing multiple concurrent projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to take initiative, embrace accountability, and provide as well as receive constructive feedback. Above all, the ideal candidate values autonomy, drives execution, and contributes to a culture of continuous improvement and engineering excellence.

Work Environment & Requirements

This role requires Canadian Government Reliability/Secret and Controlled Goods clearances, as well as a valid Canadian passport.

This position is based in Dartmouth, NS, and may require occasional international travel and offshore work. GTI is committed to upholding the highest standards of occupational health and safety and expects all employees to actively participate in maintaining safety, quality, and workplace standards. The role may involve lifting up to 40 lbs independently.

At Venor and GTI, we embrace a culture of belonging in the workplace. No matter who you are, where you’re from, how you think, what you believe in, or who you love, we welcome your application.
