Job description
We are seeking a highly specialized Technical Architect Specialist to support critical Operational Technology (OT) and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for developing comprehensive OT strategies, architectural frameworks, and security standards for a large-scale, mission-critical SCADA environment. The ideal candidate will provide advanced technical guidance across complex network routing, switching, perimeter firewall/IPS systems, and SIEM infrastructure to protect vital public utility and water/wastewater assets.

Location: Toronto, ON (Includes travel within the GTA)

Duration: 6-month contract (with potential 6-month extension)

Advantages
Critical Infrastructure Impact: Directly contribute to the stability and protection of one of the largest operational technology and water treatment ecosystems in North America.

Long-Term Continuity: An initial 6-month engagement with a structured 6-month extension path provides excellent project stability.

Advanced Technical Scope: Own the architectural direction for next-generation security safeguards, including Unidirectional Gateways, advanced network segregation, and enterprise SIEM modeling.

Executive Visibility: Influence funding and technical roadmap execution by presenting business case analyses directly to divisional management.

Responsibilities
Strategy & Standard Development: Develop overarching Operational Technology (OT) strategies and author comprehensive IT/OT standards covering endpoints, telecom, servers, storage, backup, middleware, databases, and enterprise applications.

Security & Architecture Design: Design network architecture diagrams, security topology blueprints, and technical artifacts to effectively manage ICS security, network segregation, and zoning structures.

Cybersecurity Posture Management: Continuously monitor, design, and implement advanced cybersecurity controls, safeguarding critical infrastructure via Unidirectional Gateways and network segmentation in alignment with the NIST Cyber Security Framework.

Network Engineering: Lead complex network design, performance engineering, and problem-resolution projects across WAN, mobility, wireless LAN, and Splunk SIEM platforms.

Documentation & Asset Management: Author and maintain architectural standards, operational processes, network topologies, and technology inventories to ensure high-quality, ongoing support.

Financial & Business Analysis: Prepare and submit detailed budgetary forecasts, business cases, and product evaluations (leveraging research from Gartner, Forrester, etc.) to secure project funding for OT system enhancements.

Project Consultation: Provide strategic recommendations to improve network operations, project planning, and execution workflows for foundational infrastructure improvement projects.

Qualifications
Core Experience: 10+ years of enterprise security design, configuration, implementation, and testing experience as a Technology/Infrastructure Architect.

Domain Expertise: Demonstrated experience within an Industrial Control Systems (ICS) environment, specifically within manufacturing, utilities, or the Water/Wastewater treatment sectors.

Technical Documentation: Extensive track record of authoring technical standards and security blueprints for large-scale distributed data centers and centralized systems.

Industry Frameworks: Deep knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001/27002, ITIL Library, and PASS55.

Certifications: Professional designations in Cyber Security (e.g., CISSP, CCNP Security, or CCIE Security) are highly desirable.

Education: University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent technical field is a definite asset.

Compliance & Logistics: Must be willing to travel within the GTA for project sites and provide personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated by health and safety guidelines.
